Description
Yesterday, I had booked myself to work for two hours on a class I'm developing. I wanted to have a nice script and write down all the ideas I needed to address, so learners could access that information and acquire that knowledge. But I just wasn't feeling it. I was really dreading it, I didn't want to do it, I wasn't in a creative state of mind for that at all.
So, I just moved that item from my to-do list yesterday and spent most of that time reading articles and working on my Duolingo progress before I jumped on a call I had scheduled for the end of the day. Fast forward to this morning and I went back to the class development I was originally going to work on yesterday.
It was all flowing so well, the ideas were coming in, I wrote several paragraphs and have a list of other ideas I want to develop about this content. I'm feeling so much better about this task and am not dreading it at all! That's why it's so important to stop and reflect on how you're feeling during your workday and adjust things accordingly, so you can do a good job when you're feeling ready for it.
If you're not in the right mindset, just postpone it. It could be just for a couple of hours while you take a break to do something else you enjoy, such as reading a book, cooking, going for a walk, watching an episode of the series you're currently into. Whatever it is, it'll reset your brain, so you can come back to your task and do more during the time you set yourself to work on it, instead of dragging your feet to follow a very rigid schedule when you're just not feeling it.
Actually, this will be the subject of the very first episode of Translation Confessional Season 3. We’ll be back on January 6, 2022 with an episode titled “Knowing Yourself As a Translator.” I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it once the episode is out!
