    Starting the day like any other, I left the house late. First, the alarm clock hadn't gone off; then I couldn't find one of my shoes and it had taken an additional fifteen minutes to find my car keys. To make matters worse, one look in the mirror that morning told me that my hair had a mind of its own, seemingly defying gravity and sticking out in half a dozen different directions.

    Thirty minutes after finally leaving for work, my car broke down, giving me good reason to bang my forehead on the steering wheel in frustration. Looking up I noticed steam spewing from under the hood along with the temperature gauge pointing at hot.

    Screeching in frustration, I silently vowed to get rid of the car, already having poured half of the previous month's salary into repairing the piece of junk and putting a huge hole in my Christmas budget.

    As luck would have it, my cell phone battery died just as I tried calling the auto club. Looking around, I decided that I could easily walk to the nearest service station, less than a mile away.

    My hair whipped in the cold wind as I stepped out of the car, shivering and wrapping my arms around myself, slowly walking down the roadside as I lectured myself for moving up north,

    This new job sucks and it feels like hell froze over.

    As passing cars splattered snow all over me, I promised myself that I would move home the first chance I got. After all, I didn't know anybody in the area except my coworkers and I didn’t mix with any of them socially.
