Left to Tell by Immaculée Ilibagiza was first published in 2006. This memoir describes in complete details how she went through an ordeal to survive the Rwandan Genocide.

The Rwandan Genocide had taken place in 1994. The book was published 12 years after that tragedy.

The genocide was so horrible that it claimed about one million lives in only one hundred days.

The memoir details the author’s life leading up the genocide in 1994. She describes how she had to hide in a bathroom and tried to discover God for three months. She had to live in a refugee camp until she eventually recovered from the ordeal.

After the struggle and her eventual recovery, she decided to devote her life spreading God’s word of forgiveness.

The book proved to be a New York Times Bestseller. After this book, the author wrote a sequel Led by Faith. Her next book was The Rosary.

In that book she investigates the history and purpose of her prayers which proved to be her savior during the genocide in Rwanda.

The total area available for eight women was twelve feet. The bathroom was behind a wardrobe, hidden from the eyes, in a room of the home of a Hutu Pastor.

Most of her family members were killed during the genocide. Hutu Interahamwe soldier killed her mother, her father, and her two brothers, Damascene and Vianney.

The only other survivor in her family was her brother Aimable. He was fortunate because he was studying in Senegal and he did not know what was going on in
