During the last thousand years of Dragon's, life had changed remarkably. He had started his business as a means to legally hunt down the creatures that crossed the boundaries set forth for their type of being. This was a fine line to walk at times for unlike some worlds that only had one type of intelligence this world had around twenty. Each with their own needs and the way that those needs had to be met.

Stopping in front of Undead's door he knocked, and waited. Getting tired of standing in the hall Dragon knocked one more time, then opened the door and walked in saying her name. Intro

During the last thousand years of Dragon’s, life had changed remarkably. He had started his business as a means to legally hunt down the creatures that crossed the boundaries set forth for their type of being. This was a fine line to walk at times for unlike some worlds that only had one type of intelligence this world had around twenty. Each with their own needs and the way that those needs had to be met. From the beginning, they had to either, grow their food on the land, or for those who could, they siphoned their food directly from the energy of the magnetic current that surrounded the world itself. There were also the ones who were most vulnerable to the more dangerous types of life here, these others, fed in different ways, some would suck the life force directly from other persons, others drank blood, a few lived on others fear or worship and the list kept going.

It had started when he as a high Mage, was asked to hunt down a demon that had started killing not to survive but just for fun, leaving dead bodies that still had the life force that it should have been feeding on laying in the street. It took him almost a month to hunt down the demon and destroy it, ending a killing spree that had left twenty people dead from all over Pantric city.

The city as a whole would never miss the people, who had been killed, none of them had been famous or important. Though when you considered there was over a million people living in the city you could not allow things like this to continue. This had been the start, now whenever something like this was discovered, they called him to eliminate the problem.

Chapter 1

It was storming again tonight, this was the tenth night in a row, though not being to unusual, it did not make it any more enjoyable to be out hunting down a rogue Succubus that had been hunting down married men who where out at night weather or not they were with a lady of the night. The last man that had been killed had been walking his daughter home from a conference with her teachers. He had dealt with the terrified little girl earlier today. She had been helpful, while under one of his minor spells, being able to give him an accurate description of the Succubus.

Having determined that this hunt was going to require more than one person to eliminate this Succubus, Dragon had called in his longtime friend Sam she was a beautiful blonde witch who had helped him with other kills before. He had met her during one of his first cases when he found her hunting the same human, that he was then hunting. The human had killed her coven mate, and she had decided to take it upon herself to eliminate the human.

Tonight she was at the other end of the street guarding the entrance to the alley so that no bystanders would be hurt while he took down their target. I watched as Dragon pulled out the materials it would take to trap then kill the Succubus. As he was setting the trap down the Succubus strolled out of the door from the bar where we had spotted her just a few minutes ago, she was dragging a fairy with her. She must have seen Dragon because she bolted straight at me. Having my sword out I thought I was ready for her, but I was wrong. As I raised my left hand to cast a spell, she threw a knife and I watched as it sank into my hand not having the time to move my hand or deflect the knife.

The next thing I remember Dragon was kneeling over me with his right hand hovering over the center of my bare chest with bright blue energy radiating from his hand and covering what appeared from my point of view my entire body. Then the light went out and I gasped for air, it felt like I had been holding my breath for minutes. As his hand came to rest between my breast, with a slight pressure. Stay still for a couple of minutes Sam. Let my spell finish its work. What do you mean finish its work and did you get the Succubus?

The Succubus is laying over there in a pile of burnt cinders. It pissed me off so much I fried her ass instead of using the approved methods, though I do not think anyone will complain about it. As far as what my spell is doing it is bringing your body back from the dead, we will have to see if it effected your abilities as a witch in a few days, until then you will need to stay with me so that I can monitor your condition.

Dragon stood up and took my hands in his. They were very warm almost hot, pulling me to my feet. The world spun slightly and I gripped his hand tighter, Dizzy are you, it will go away in a few minutes. Yes, I am slightly dizzy, though it is no worse than having a couple too many drinks. Walking with my arm around Sam, we approached what was left of the Succubus, it was still smoking I reached into the smoking pile and retrieved the metal disk that allowed city officials to identify anyone's body if alive it could not be removed, and if dead it changed to a different type of metal.

Let's go back to my place, so you and I can get some sleep. Walking back into a populated area of town, Dragon hailed a cab and we were whisked to an estate located on the north side of town. When the cab pulled up in front of the gate, that had to be fifteen foot tall Dragon waved his fingers and the gate split down the middle and slid to the sides of the drive allowing the taxi to enter.

When the cab stopped in front of the rather large mansion Dragon slid out of the door and offered is hand to me, then escorted me up the sidewalk. As we walked to the door’s they swung open so that Dragon and I did not even need to slow down as we walked in. Then they silently closed behind us. I had never been to Dragons house before and did not know what to expect.

This place was nothing like what I imagined a Mage would live in. The floor and walls were marble, there were numerous statues, and other items scattered along the walls in what was apparently an understated display of wealth. In the center of the back of the room was a grand staircase that gracefully rose from the floor and linked the three visible floors together in a flowing work of art. That looks like a long way to walk tonight Dragon. Never fear my dear it is a much easier ascension than you can imagine.

With that, he led me up to the base of the stairway. As soon as we stepped onto the bottom stair, the stairs started gliding upward. Standing on the stair until it came to rest level with the second floor, Dragon stepped off of the step guiding me along the balcony and stopped in front of the first door we came to. Opening the door to the room, I was so tired by then I did not even bother looking
