Old Style / New Style dating. All countries in the Western world shifted from the Julian (Old Style or O.S.) to the Gregorian (New Style or N.S.) calendar, jumping ahead up to 12 days to catch up with the actual movements of the Sun. The timing of the change varied significantly by country, with France adjusting in 1582, England in 1752, and Russia in 1918. All birthdates in The Quotable Sagittarius use New Style dating to accurately reflect the astrological position of the Sun.

On the cusp. The usual dates for a Sagittarian Sun are November 23 through December 21.
