With appreciation for my favorite Capricorns Christine, Damian and Jim M.

The mountains were there and so was I.

    Maurice Herzog, born 1/15/1919

on why he became a mountaineer

I went home and strutted even more, bragged more, and spoke even louder than before. My poor parents, they were more nervous than ever. I’m gonna be the greatest of all time, I said as I shadowboxed everywhere. Even today, my own company is called G.O.A.T. Inc. Know what that stands for? GREATEST OF ALL TIME. I knew when I was twelve I was gonna be THE GREATEST.

    Muhammed Ali, born 1/18/1942

    Author’s Notes about Birth Data

Data accuracy. Many famous people have different birth years published in different places. The author has checked multiple sources for accuracy and asks that reliable data corrections be submitted to info@quotablezodiac.com.

Old Style / New Style dating. All countries in the Western world shifted from the Julian (Old Style or O.S.) to the Gregorian (New Style or N.S.) calendar, jumping ahead up to 12 days to catch up with the actual movements of the Sun. The timing of the change varied significantly by country, with France adjusting in 1582, England in 1752, and Russia in 1918. All birthdates in The Quotable Capricorn use New Style dating to accurately reflect the astrological position of the Sun.

"On the cusp." The usual dates for a Capricorn Sun are December 22 through January 19. But the Sun moves from Sagittarius to Capricorn and from Capricorn to Aquarius at a specific moment each year, with the dates varying by a day or two from year to year. In the effort to include only true Capricorns in this book, the author evaluated place of birth and time of birth where available. If you were born on the cusp and are unsure about your own Sun sign, email your date, time and place of birth to help@quotablezodiac.com for a free identification.

    Introduction

You know you’re a Capricorn. You identify with the standard adjectives used to describe Capricorn—responsible, ambitious, conservative, controlled. But you’d like more dimension to what being a Capricorn means.

The Quotable Capricorn lets your fellow Capricorns tell your story. Famous Capricorns describe your natural Talents for hard work and responsibility in one chapter, addressing Challenges like negativity and low self-esteem in another. The section on Double-Edged Traits highlights Capricorn characteristics like ambition and conservatism that become strengths or weaknesses depending on expression. Chapters about Work, Creativity, Sports, and Relationships let you focus on Capricorn tendencies within specific arenas. The core Capricorn traits of responsibility, management and longevity come through in all areas. The Quotable Capricorn lets you select Capricorn leaders, artists and athletes to identify with as you develop your own Capricorn potential.

The astrological placement of Sun in Capricorn at your moment of birth indicates your core energy, the life force driving the rest of your personality. From classic literature to contemporary celebrities, statements from other Capricorns underscore your natural tendencies. It goes beyond coincidence that controlled, authoritative Capricorn contributes more prominent broadcasters than any other zodiac sign. Capricorn capacity for effective management and group discipline correlates with Capricorn’s #1 position in Super Bowl wins for coaches. Capricorn’s careful maintenance of a proper public image makes it only too easy to list famous Capricorns suffering scandalous falls in public opinion.

Astrology is most useful as a tool for self-knowledge, validating specific tendencies that you already perceive in yourself. Astrology describes the hand of cards that you were born with, but you put the cards into play. The Quotable Capricorn helps you better understand yourself so that you more effectively manage your Capricorn tendencies to achieve your goals.
