About this ebook

A surprised expression covered the stranger’s face. “Wow, are you in luck,” the brown eyed man said. “I’m heading for the same place. One of my friend’s called me and said they were hiring extras to assemble the equipment and do odd jobs. What a coincidence we should run into each other like this.” He shook his head with disbelief.
Matt couldn’t believe his luck. “Do you think I can ride with you?”
“I don’t see why not. Climb aboard. By the way, I’m Jason Wheeler and you’re.....” He pushed his hand toward Matt to shake.
Matt suddenly felt tongue-tied, but managed to push the words past his dry lips. “Matt Ramsey, and thanks for the ride.” Matt shook his hand before heaving his duffel bag into the back of the truck and climbing in alongside Jason. “This is really a stroke of luck finding someone going the same way and to the same place.”
“Maybe we were destined to meet.” Jason smiled again at him his eyes narrowing slightly as if he found him pleasing to the eye.
As he shifted gears and sent the truck back onto the narrow road he didn’t try carrying on a conversation. For the next few seconds, Jason’s attention was taken up with driving around a few potholes. This gave Matt the extra time to study his companion.
Jason had wide shoulders narrowing down to proportioned thighs and what looked like muscular legs beneath his tight jeans. The portion of his bare arms showing also made Matt realize the man was muscled out from head to toe. This guy was a real hunk making Matt feel an unexpected excitement heat up his body.
He silently wondered which way the wind blew for Jason. Matt only hoped he had interpreted Jason’s favorable looks when he climbed aboard the cab of the truck.

Matt Ramsey loved the circus when it arrived in town a couple of times a year in the rural area of Illinois. While growing up, he practiced aerial stunts in the barn from ropes attached to the rafters. He had also installed a tightrope, but used a long wooden pole to help support him and a thick mallet, stuffed with feathers, on the floor in case he slipped and fell. He practiced relentlessly, loving every second trying out the different daring stunts.

Someday, he intended to follow his dream in finding work in the circus, hopefully working in the outdoors year round as they traveled to warmer climates in the winter seasons. His main dream was to become a performer on the trapeze. He looked at the lifestyle as one of excitement and fulfillment.

He’d been a loner in his early years, keeping to himself with his dreams tucked inside his head. At an early age, Matt knew there was something different about him. In his teens, the opposite sex didn’t hold an ounce of interest for him, but the young guys sitting across the aisle in school were a different story. Most days he watched them secretly, visualizing what they looked like beneath their jeans and shirts.

He always kept his feelings a secret, hoping to someday leave his small community and live his life without the audience of relatives and friends. There was no way he wanted to find out how his family and friends would react to any confession he made about his preferences to the male.

Matt didn’t believe anyone suspected what he’d kept hidden his entire life. He was different and there was no changing the circumstances no matter how hard he tried.

By the time he was twenty-one, he made up his mind to leave as soon as he heard the circus was showing up early in the spring in Indiana. He discussed it with his parents and they encouraged him to give it a try. He had read the different advertisements in the local newspaper about the owner of the circus needing workers to assemble and set up in each town. Well, this was a start in the right direction, so he packed his belongings in a duffel bag and headed out early one spring morning.

As he trudged down the old gravel road, he focused on reaching the paved highway so that he might possibly catch a ride with someone who traveled through the area in the early morning hours.

He had filled his wallet with his savings hoping it lasted until he could find employment. Money was so tight he didn’t want to use the little he had for
