    Sal peeked through the small door; the Bear Capital Holiday party was in full swing.

    He saw rows of long tables; on the long tables were lots of uncorked bottles.

    He saw lot of Silver Oak and Dom Perignon; Sal also saw lots of other open bottles of fine wine, both red and white, and other sparkling wines and expensive champagnes—the Derels, short for Derelicts on the trading floor liked to joke that the wine and champagne went together like nuts and gum because of the ensuing bad hangover headaches.

    But that didn't stop anybody from mixing. As Sal well knew, hangover headaches the next day could be overcome with blow.

    Waiters and waitresses in tuxedos that looked a lot like Sal's were passing from table to table with trays of martini glasses in their hands but none of the waiters and waitresses were holding up their pants with twine; all of them had remembered their suspenders.

    Sal tugged at his twine.

    He reached in his pants pocket and pulled out his sandwich baggie of trail mix, scooped a pinch out and slipped the pinch inside his lip.

    Sal thought that it looked like the first course was some kind of Dungeness crab bisque and that the bisque had been poured into the martini glasses.
