Waking up was always difficult, and even more so when she was forced to wake up. Julia’s eyes were still closed in her barely awake state she felt something moving on her bed. She pulled her head from under her pillow and took off her eye mask. The day light was horribly bright and it took her a moment to adjust to the light. Groggily she sat up and saw something blurry jumping on her bed. There was a person on her bed, a small person jumping around with hair flying everywhere and a monkey in hand, disturbing her sleep.

Leah what are you doing? Julia asked with annoyance. The five year old stopped jumping and crawled toward her.

It’s time for my breakfast, she said, pressing her face up to Julia’s, she knew that Julia couldn’t see her clearly without her glasses on. Julia rolled over and stuffed her head back under her pillow. After kicking and screaming not wanting to get out of bed, she grabbed her glasses from her night table and checked the time on her alarm clock. It was 7:45. She jumped off of the bed and scared Leah who was poking her. Leah was supposed to be on the pre-school bus at 8:15, that left only thirty minutes for her to eat and get dressed and her morning routine never took less than an hour.

Julia got out of bed and took Leah in her arms and rushed into the bathroom to attempt to brush her teeth and get her dressed. Instead of letting her take 10 minutes to put her pants on herself, Julia did it for her and nearly broke her neck trying to stuff her shirt over her head. Ouch, Julia that hurts! She screamed.

"Shush and stop wiggling, we have to hurry up, the bus is going to be here soon.

It’s not my fault you wouldn’t wake up! Julia scowled at her and was too irritated to reply. After a few more minutes of struggling Leah was dressed, she had her shoes on the correct feet, and her book bag filled with crayons was on her back.

Julia’s day hadn’t begun the way that she wanted. She narrowly missed getting her sister on the bus for kindergarten and exhaled with relief as she waved goodbye while the bus drove away. Still, Julia was ready for anything that was going to come during the day. After seeing her sister off to school, she sat at her kitchen table and read work emails on her tablet. She was going to have a short work day, with only one school visit scheduled. By 9:00am she had reread what she wanted to accomplish at the school, had her morning coffee, and got dressed.

She had a presentation at noon with a few school administrators at a school across town. It was a workshop day for them and the company that she worked for scheduled an appointment with some of the teachers to show them ways that they can use learning software in their classrooms. Julia was very well acquainted with the software herself but always felt the need to review the programs
