    Notes to Translators:

    1. Scripture quotations are taken from the Authorised Version (the KJV or King James Version, 1611). Frequently, the term Holy Ghost is used in that translation rather than Holy Spirit. Preface

This short book about the Holy Spirit has been written to help especially young believers in Christ to know what the Bible teaches about this important subject. In four short chapters we are informed from the Scriptures about who the Holy Spirit is and what He does -in us, for us, and for others. As we learn and apply such fundamental truths of the Bible, we will be better able to make proper progress in our Christian lives, and fulfil our purpose in God’s service.

Like other books and booklets in this series, this one has been specially designed for the benefit of readers in different parts of the world whose native language is not English. The style of writing has been kept simple. Complicated sentences and difficult words are avoided as much as possible. It will therefore be easier to read, and also to translate into other languages where this is necessary or helpful. On the other hand, those who are fluent in English will more quickly benefit from these pages and the information, encouragement and challenge which they bring. The end of chapter summaries and optional study questions will help all readers to absorb the subject matter and take their studies further.

John Ritchie Ltd and the Lord’s Work Trust, Kilmarnock, Scotland, have encouraged and supported the production of these books and the authors gratefully acknowledge their support. All who have been involved in these publications are doing so to promote the honour of the Lord Jesus and the blessing of His people wherever they are found.

    CHAPTER 1

The Holy Spirit and His Work
