Haunted Desire

Every town has stories about haunted houses. Some are obviously fake, some are bizarre, and some are not so easily dismissed. My town has a house like the last example. It's been on the market a dozen times in the last 100 years. New owners come and go, usually only staying a few weeks before cutting their losses. It's been on the market now for about 30 years. The rumors swirl, of course. People say they've heard strange noises, or seen unexplained shadows on the walls. The usual nonsense. Most of the teenagers in the area dare each other to spend the night. Most don't make it past midnight before racing out, claiming to have seen all sorts of things. I'd never been in the house before yesterday. I don't really believe in ghosts and I had no reason to go into the house until the photo shoot.

I'm a model for a small-time modeling firm. Mostly we do ads for local businesses. Nothing really risqué, but I've done some underwear ads. Today we started an art shoot for an art major at the university. The client, whose name was Derek, had hired our firm to supply models. Derek and Mitch would work together on posing, and Derek would take all of the pictures. Normally Mitch wouldn't be keen on letting someone borrow his equipment, but he had made an exception for Derek. Mitch insisted that he supervise the use of the equipment and the treatment of the models. Derek had contacted the current owners of the house and they had agreed to let him set up for a few days. I think they hoped that it would help them unload the place on some unsuspecting buyers. The shoot was intended to mix the old and the new. The models were dressed in brand-new, high fashion lingerie. Derek had scoured thrift stores in order to find some older furniture. He'd put the furniture in the house about a month ago so they would gather dust. I was excited for this shoot; I'd never done anything like it and it would add some interest to my portfolio.

We showed up to the house at 7AM. There were only two models, myself and a quiet girl named Ashley. It wasn't a big project, and the client hadn't wanted any of the pictures to look cluttered. We took several shots outside in different outfits. Walking across the lawn in high heels was difficult, but I'm sure it made for some interesting photographs. We headed back inside, and began to pose in different places around the house. After a few hours, I took a break. My mind wandered as I looked around the room.

Mackenzie! Mitch had clearly called my name a few times already. I snapped to attention.

Sorry, Mitch. I guess I was daydreaming. I smiled sheepishly at him, hoping he wasn't about to lose his cool. Mitch was an OK boss, but he demanded we always be at attention. He called it being professional. We called it being a pain in the ass. We didn't complain much, though. Mitch was demanding and loud, but he never propositioned us and paid fairly. That was worth a lot in this business and we all knew it.

Well, knock it off. We want you and Ashley on the bed together.

I raised my eyebrows. That sounded remarkably like the lead-in to a porn shoot, and Mitch was adamant that his agency never do gigs like that. I glanced over at Ashley. She looked startled, but clearly not in the mood to rock the boat. I wasn't going
