About this ebook

Join Brock and Becca on the west coast of Canada as they enjoy the many attractions to be found in the city of Vancouver, and on Vancouver Island.
Brock’s favourite was the time spent in the Aquarium in Stanley Park because he liked the sharks, snakes, and putting his head in a fish tank. Becca thought whale watching out
on the ocean in a zodiac boat was the best. She was the only one who didn’t get wet from the spray. A fiddler on the roof, and goats on the roof were added enjoyment, along with a trip to Butchart Gardens and many other attractions.

    CHAPTER 1

We were in an airplane flying from Whitehorse, in the Yukon, to Vancouver, in British Columbia.

We had just finished the most exciting vacation. It had everything: wild animals that were not in cages, mountains, rivers of ice, museums that were interesting instead of boring, tours, and ferry, train, and helicopter rides. We had panned for gold, and found some. There had been so much to see and do, and we did it all in such a short time.

Becca even learned to go to the toilet in outhouses. That was all the Yukon had along the winding roads that took us from one place to another.

I hadn’t wanted to leave, and could not believe I was going to have a good time in Vancouver. After all, it was a big city, and I was used to being in the wilderness. I might even be a tour guide in the Yukon when I grow up.

Things would be different. There would be no more bears at the side of the road, or a lynx walking along a street in Vancouver. If there was one, wouldn’t that get the folks excited? They’d probably call the police. I bet we won’t even see an eagle. I’d seen about a hundred of them in the Yukon.

The last wild animals we had seen before arriving in Whitehorse, were two bears on the grass at the side of the road. Dad stopped the van, but they stayed where they were. They looked like you could cuddle them, but I knew better. They were not pets.

At first, when Mom said we had to leave, I was tempted to copy the way Bad Bobby would have acted.

He was a kid we met in the Yukon. He was such a brat Mom gave him the name of Bad Bobby. None of us knew what his real name was. He never obeyed his parents. They would tell him to do something, and if he didn’t like it, he just said, No, and stamped his feet. Then they would let him do what he wanted.

Mom watched this happen, and said, Just wait until Bad Bobby is a teenager. His parents will be sorry they did not make him mind when he was younger.

I am almost nine, and Dad expects me to set a good example for my little sister Becca who is only six.

So when Mom said we had to leave the Yukon, I didn’t stamp my feet or pout, but I could have. I didn’t want to go. But I could tell Mom and Dad did not want to leave either, and that made me feel a little better.

When Mom planned this holiday, she thought we would be tired of being in the Yukon, and would be happy to return to a big city. She cut back on our time in the Yukon to fit in a visit to Vancouver, and Vancouver Island.

You will enjoy what I have planned, she said as we boarded the plane, and I got the feeling she was talking to herself as much as she was talking to us.

I looked out of the plane’s window at the water below. That, and some puffy clouds, was all there was to see.

I took out my book and started to read, but even that didn’t interest me.

Becca was talking to her dumb doll, Krissy on the other side of Mom.

I looked over at Dad who was sitting in a seat by himself. I thought he could stand some company.

Is it okay if I go and sit with Dad? I asked.

Yes, that’s fine, replied Mom, so I squeezed by, and joined Dad.

The plane was only half full. Not many people wanted to leave the Yukon for Vancouver, and I didn’t blame them.

Dad and I talked about the trip, and all the things we had seen.

He told me he liked the helicopter flight the best because he had never been in one before.

I asked, But what about the Can Can girls? Didn’t you like them?

"I just talked about them to tease
