INTRODUCTION
About the book
The Simple Life Academy is the culmination of my life’s passion and purpose. I’ve always been a bit of a minimalist because I enjoy living simply. I love the freedom that comes with not having a lot of stuff.
I started writing about a simpler way to live in 2007. My blog, terra, not terror
was about reducing your impact on the planet through innovation and awareness. Doing research for the blog opened my eyes to all the fantastic inventions and strategies people were employing in order to tread lightly on the planet. I soon learned that it’s about so much more than that.
By living simply, you reduce your stress, save money, and live a healthier, happier life.
People know that I live simply, don’t consume a lot, and try to reduce my impact on the planet, so they always me ask how I do it. Here's the secret: the most effective thing you can do is not buy anything disposable. That’s it. Once you’ve got that down, or are at least aware of it, you’re on the path to the simple life.
But keep reading. There’s more!
When I became a health coach, I encountered some resistance because it’s hard to be healthy.
I agree. It’s hard to make good decisions at the grocery store. It’s hard to consistently eat the best
food you can. And it’s hard to exercise five days a week. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Being healthy doesn’t have to be so hard.
This book is the basis for The Simple Life Academy group program that I offer as a health coach. In the program, we talk about food and cooking, meditation, sleep, stress, life, and self care. We find really easy, effective, and achievable ways to live the healthy life you want to live, without making it hard. This program (and this book) are about finding what works best for you. I am here to guide, support, and inspire you.
Of course, you don’t have to live like I do. Not everyone would want to, and I certainly don’t do everything perfectly anyway. You have to find your own way. So, as you read this book, take what you want, and leave the rest without judgment. And I encourage you to take it to the next level by joining The Simple Life Academy coaching program. How to use this book
This book is a quick read, but you won’t benefit if you just read it and put it away. So, there are action steps following each chapter, and the full list of action steps can be found at the back of the book. Try some things on for size. See how you like it, and if it doesn’t work for you, that’s ok. Appreciate yourself for trying.
This isn’t a research book, but there are some resources for you to consult, if you’d like to learn more.
