I looked at the crudely drawn map one more time.

The compound should be just over that rise, if I had navigated this correctly.

Crossing my fingers, I adjusted the straps of my pack and started uphill, my already tired legs protesting.

I reached the edge of the trees and stopped, not wanting to step out into the open yet.

A curious mixture of relief and trepidation hit me as I saw that I had gone in the right direction.

The large compound was walled in with visible security patrols and, I’m sure, some not so visible ones. The trees had been cut down all around the perimeter to leave no cover for any would be attackers. All I could tell from here was that it appeared to be a well run operation.
