The Sword Shaman

The "Worshipper of Weapons" has devoted his life to one weapon, to the exclusion of all others. In giving up every other weapon, the Sword Shaman gains a spiritual bond with his sword (or melee weapon of his choice). He can throw it, control it from afar, and even absorb spells into it.
This Prestige Class comes with all the information you need to create this character. It also includes a sample character and 5 story starters to insert the Sword Shaman into your campaign. There are also 4 new spells, although 1 of them, Energy Shock, also appears in my Winter Warrior Prestige Class book.
Those who play 3.5 edition or Pathfinder rules would get the most out of this class, but there is inspiration here for any fantasy roleplayer.

SWORD SHAMAN

The Sword Shaman has dedicated her life to the study of one specific weapon, giving up the use of all other weapons. She has forged a mystical connection that allows her to tap into primal forces surrounding her weapon of choice.

Despite the name, this weapon does not have to be a sword. It can be any melee weapon at the DM's discretion.

Fighters, Paladins, Clerics, Monks and Rangers are dedicated to studying melee combat, making them the best Sword Shamans. Barbarians and Sorcerers rarely have the focus for it. Wizards and Druids could benefit from the attack options this class provides, but they usually have better ranged combat options.

Sword Shamans rarely become anything else but adventurers or specialized guards.

This particular breed of shamanism isn't taught in schools or churches. There are high level Sword Shamans that take on multiple apprentices, but it is not a necessary part of training. The devotion to the weapon is very personal, and can take on many directions.

If the player knows she will become a Sword Shaman, she can start using only one melee weapon early on. For example, a halfling Ranger can start at Level 1 using only daggers, and a light crossbow when needed. By the time Level 6 comes around, the player can turn the Ranger into a Sword Shaman.

Requirements

To qualify to become a Sword Shaman, a character must fulfill all of the following criteria.

Alignment: Any

Special: Base Attack +5, Weapon Focus or Weapon Finesse. Give up the use of all other weapons. A Sword Shaman must be very religious. There is no particular god that they all serve.

Class Skills

The Sword Shaman class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Climb (Str), Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Jump (Str), Knowledge (Religion) (Int), Ride (Dex), Swim (Str).

Skill Points at Each Level: 2 + Intelligence Modifier.
