I love to read, but I live to write. What started out as a way to express my pent up emotions when I was a child, quickly turned into something I couldn't live without. My first real writing was done through poetry. It was short, to the point, and let me talk about whatever happy or depressing thoughts happened to cross my mind. From there I moved on to short stories. In the beginning they weren't very long, had awful grammar, and tended to be very rushed. Once I found fanfiction, that all began to change. I started to really get inside my characters heads, flesh out their worlds, and write out complete thoughts instead of just snippets. It didn't take long for me to start writing my own stories again, and I haven't stopped since. I still tend to stick with short stories (I have a very short attention span), but I no longer feel that's all I can write. I've completed one full length novel and am well on my way to finishing the second.I never stick to just one topic or genre, my mind doesn't work that way, so chances are you'll see a wide variety of stories from me.I hope you enjoy reading my works as much as I enjoyed writing them.

I’ve noticed that there have been a lot of books put out lately that seem to romanticize the creatures of the night, and I have to say, I’m very disappointed. Does no one do their homework anymore? Seriously, when did those horrible things become so adored?

My family’s been hunting Vampires for over a thousand years, and they are evil little bastards that kill for pleasure and torment every mortal that crosses their path. They don’t sparkle, or go all soft and fall in love, there isn’t a single ounce of humanity left in them. Their whole purpose is the destruction of our species, and they’re extremely good at it.

So go ahead, make up stories that portray them as beautiful creatures that can be tamed, just don’t come crying to me when they start hunting you down. Remember, you asked for it.

My name is Samantha Cruise, and I am a Vampire Hunter.

    o o o o o

I can trace my ancestry back to 862 AD. Kind of crazy, I know, but then we’re nothing if not packrats. I think there are still some old scrolls up in the attic that one of my great-great-great-great Aunts brought over from China when she was transferred to the states. They’re totally useless nowadays, what with common weapons being far more effective in a hunt, but no one seems willing to get rid of them.

Of course, they’re just one of many things lying around the house. We could probably turn the place into a museum if we weren’t so worried about Mortals finding out the truth. There’d be mass panic if they knew how many Vampires actually reside on the planet.

And yes, we keep a running list of every living Vampire currently in existence. We also have records of every one that’s been killed, those who are in hibernation, and the ones who are still Fledglings and haven’t quite finished the transformation. The numbers are astounding.

Like I said, my family’s been at this for awhile. I’ve got relatives in every corner of the globe, willing to pack up at a moment’s notice if their skills are needed elsewhere.

My parents are the current heads of the family, every side branch reports to them in a monthly conference call, and will remain as such for another thirty-three years. In the early seventeen hundreds it was decided that the leadership of the family was to alternate between each branch every fifty years. Giving the old leaders the chance to retire and transferring the power over to someone younger and more able to handle the stress of the job.

Not that I care, it won’t be my branch’s turn to take control until long after I’m dead so I’ve got nothing to worry about. Which is great because I’d much rather spend my time taking those freaks out. I may be only seventeen, but I’m already well on my way to becoming a Master.

There are three different classes of Vampire Hunters; the Slayers, the Hunters, and the Masters. A Slayer is someone who’s sent to a specific location to keep an eye on things. They don’t usually deal with many Vampires so anyone who can’t handle the intense training is thrown into this category. The Hunters are the ones that do all your basic, well, hunting. They’re given targets to track down and destroy in their area. This is what everyone who passes the training graduates to. The last are the Masters, and they’re the elite of the elite. A special group designed with the sole purpose of taking out the most deadly of all Vampires. They always travel in pairs, and are allowed to do something no other Hunter can . . . kill a Mortal.

As Hunters it is our job to protect Mortals from Vampires, but if we cannot do so without harming a Mortal we are not allowed to make a move. Masters are granted that right for the simple reason that those they track almost always have Mortal slaves willing to protect them. One Mortal death to save hundreds is considered an acceptable loss.

Of course the plus side to being a Master is that you get to choose the jobs you take, you can travel the world, and all your expenses are paid for . . . for life! Sure it’s a little on the dangerous side, but I’ve been stuck in this backwoods city my whole life and for the chance to see new places on someone else’s dime I’m willing to take that risk.

My mom of course is furious with my decision to try and become a Master. She was hoping I’d drop out of training like Sasha and Emily and become another Slayer like her. Dad, he was proud to see me become a Hunter. He didn’t have a son so when my older sisters failed I was his last hope for continuing his line. I think he even cried a little when I graduated.

    Oh yeah, that’s
