About this ebook

Samantha met Günther in the bank where she worked as a bank teller. It took a while for them to really get to know each other but Günther made the effort. Even if it meant standing in a queue until he could have a brief little chat. Their friendship progressed to meeting on a Friday for a cup of coffee. It was a very slow courtship and then all of a sudden it was like a surge. Günther needed to see Samantha every single day. After buying a house on a small holding Günther suddenly got scared and pulled back. He almost withdrew himself from their relationship. He felt he didn’t have anything to offer. Oh but Samantha wasn’t having any of that. If he was going to walk out of their relationship she would make sure he knew exactly how she felt. That was the moment that everything changed. The small holding became everything. It seemed to pull everyone together. Making the families even more of a family. And the family seemed to grow. Their lives took on a different direction.

    CHAPTER 1

Günther Bösler stood in the bank, patiently. As always, at the end of the month, there was a long queue. There were four or five tellers assisting. Günther looked around. He preferred to do his banking via the internet, but for today’s transactions he needed to be in the bank, physically.

He looked over at one of the tellers. He was mesmerized. She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. She was always smiling, and friendly to everyone. She was quick and efficient and helped to move the queue a lot faster. He had seen her a couple of times before. He couldn’t help but stare every time he saw her. But she had never served him. He had often left the bank thinking about her. She certainly was beautiful. Out of his league. Günther waited patiently. He walked up to her and greeted her. He handed over his deposit book with all his cheques to be deposited, as well as his cash withdrawal slip.

Samantha Schlagbauer looked at the name on the cheques and looked up at Günther. She had seen him a couple of times before but had never had the pleasure of serving him.

Samantha smiled and looked up at Günther and greeted him, in German. She processed his deposits in his deposit book. Günther looked at her lovely long fingers. Everything about her was beautiful. She smiled. Samantha looked at Günther and spoke to him, once again, in German.

How would you like your cash Herr Bösler? Tens, twenties, fifties or hundreds?

Günther stood and stared at Samantha. He couldn’t believe his ears. She actually acknowledged him in his own language. He was so shocked. Samantha smiled at Günther.

How would you like your cash Herr Bösler? Tens, twenties, fifties or hundreds? He smiled a huge smile.

Fifties and hundreds please. Samantha counted out the notes and handed them to Günther in a money bag. Günther chuckled as he took the money bag.

    Thank you. Samantha politely nodded.

My pleasure. She gave him a huge wink as he walked off.

Günther smiled as he walked off. He stopped for a minute and looked back at Samantha. She was smiling at a young woman. She looked his way and quickly smiled and looked down again. Günther turned again, smiling, and headed out of the bank. He grinned as he walked. He whispered to himself.

She smiled at me. And she winked at me. Oh wow! He laughed quietly to himself as he walked.

Günther made a point of going to the bank every Friday. He tried to get to speak to Samantha every time. They started chatting. Nothing personal as time was always very brief. They chatted all about the weather and general snippets of news in the city.

Günther stood chatting and looked down. He saw her wedding ring which he had never noticed before. He looked straight at Samantha with huge eyes. He whispered.

Are you married? Samantha grinned and whispered.

No. Günther let out a huge sigh. Samantha chuckled. She looked around and tried to keep a straight face. He looked at her and whispered again.

What time do you leave? Samantha gave him a little smile and whispered.

Four, but I get out at about ten past. Günther nodded and smiled. He headed out of the bank.

Günther made his way back to his office. He finished off what he was doing and looked at his watch. It was ten to four. He smiled as he left his office. He had plans.

Samantha walked out of the bank. Günther walked up towards her. Samantha smiled as she walked out.

    Herr Bösler? Günther smiled.

It’s Günther. Can I take you out for coffee? Samantha smiled.

Of course. I can’t resist a decent cup of coffee. Günther put his hand in the small of Samantha’s back and they walked over to the coffee shop.

As they walked Samantha felt so comfortable with Günther’s hand in the small of her back. It felt so right. It was as if it belonged where it was. Samantha looked up at Günther. He looked down and gave her a smile. Samantha’s stomach lurched. Her heart skipped a beat. She looked away again, smiling.

They sat down across from each other in the coffee shop. Günther ordered each of them a cup of filter coffee. He looked at Samantha.

Now tell me about the ring. I’m curious. Samantha chuckled.

When you have a lot of time, and don’t judge. Can you do that? Günther chuckled.

You don’t pull your punches. Samantha chuckled.

You need to have an open mind, and not judge. Günther smiled.

    Fire away. Samantha nodded.

    I have a friend.

    A friend?

A very close friend. Günther nodded.

    And?

We grew up together. Went to school and studied together. Günther nodded.

    There’s much more. Samantha smiled.

    Open mind. Günther nodded.

He had this woman that was hounding him. She even stalked him. Günther looked at Samantha.

    And?

And he needed to have a decoy. So he bought me a ring to wear. We went out and made sure she saw us. Günther stared.

    So?

So we made as if we got married. Günther nodded.

    Wow. Close friend. Samantha nodded.

But, not that close. I know what you are thinking. Günther nodded and whispered.

Were you dating? Samantha whispered and shuddered.

No way in hell. Günther chuckled and threw his hands in the air.

Thank God! Samantha roared with laughter.

He left. Went overseas. No more problem.

    He looked down.

Are you still ‘married’? Samantha shook her head.

No, wearing it is just a habit now. A reminder of what a nice person I was. Günther nodded. He took her hand in his and slipped off her ring. He put it on to her finger on the other hand. Samantha smiled.

Thanks. Günther nodded. She wiggled her finger in the air.

Now I feel better. Much better. Samantha chuckled.

Günther smiled at Samantha. They sat chatting about his I.T. company, what he enjoyed, what she enjoyed. Both Günther and Samantha sat chatting until six in the evening. Günther looked outside.

It’s almost dark. Samantha looked out.

So Günther, are we going to do this again? Günther smiled.

    Friday? Samantha nodded.

Friday is always good for me. The waitress brought the bill over and gave it to Günther.

    We’re going Dutch. Günther chuckled.

Two Germans, going Dutch, sounds Irish. Samantha grinned. She opened the bill folder and looked at it. She took out her purse and gave him her half of the bill, with extra for the waitress. Günther looked at Samantha.

Nope. Samantha held the bill folder closed.

If I don’t pay my way you won’t see me again. Günther smiled and nodded.

    Blackmail. Samantha grinned and nodded.

Günther took out his money and took Samantha’s money out of the bill folder. He put one note into the bill folder to cover their coffees, plus a tip. He took her notes and coins and put them into an empty section in his wallet. Samantha smiled as she watched. He smiled.

    This time only.

We’ll see. He chuckled as they both got up and headed out of the door.

    Samantha looked at Günther.

I enjoyed that. Günther beamed and nodded.

    Myself.

Which way are you headed? Günther pointed at his huge black Mercedes-Benz GL-Class Four by Four SUV.

I’m going that way. And you? Samantha smiled.

Just a little way for me. I walk home. Günther smiled.

Can I give you a lift? Samantha chuckled.

It will take longer than me walking. Günther chuckled.

So I’ll see you next week? Samantha nodded.

Samantha stood on her tiptoes and kissed Günther on the cheek.

Bye. She turned around and started walking away. Günther stood still. He was mesmerized. He felt as if someone had punched him in the stomach. He felt as if he was in a daze. He watched as she walked off. He put his hand to his cheek without realizing. Samantha turned around and waved. Günther smiled and waved. He stood watching, smiling. His heart made a huge leap. For the first time in his life he felt at peace. As if everything was good. He felt his trousers tighten as his erection sprang to life. Günther stood and blushed. This had never ever happened to him before.

Günther headed over to his SUV. He hopped in. His heart was skipping beats. He couldn’t breathe. Even his palms were sticky. His temperature had soared. He had a huge smile. Günther let out a huge breath and started his car. He headed straight over to his parent’s home, where he still lived. He walked in, smiling.

    CHAPTER 2

Günther’s mother, Heidi, smiled as he walked in. He headed straight for his bedroom and took out the note and coins that he had taken out of the bill folder. He took a little piece of Tik-Tak and stuck some to the back of each coin. He stuck them to his cupboard. He did the same with the note. He took the peppermint wrapper from his pocket and stuck it up. He smiled as he looked at them and spoke.

My first date with the most beautiful woman on earth. He quietly laughed as he smiled and shook his head. He whispered.

    I am going nuts.

Günther walked through to the lounge and sat down. He was always quiet and always so serious. His father Heinz looked over at him and smiled.

Good day? Günther smiled and nodded. He sat still. His sister Erika and brother Schultz walked in. They both looked at Heidi who was looking at Günther.

They both walked over and sat down in the lounge. Günther sat still. Quiet, but smiling. He rested his head on the back of the couch and let out a deep breathe.

They all looked at him as he got up and headed towards the kitchen. He chuckled and grinned as he came back to the lounge with his cup of coffee.

    What? Erika chuckled.

Is it a woman? Günther nodded.

Have you been out on a date? Günther chuckled.

    Dutch. Erika chuckled.

    A Dutch woman? Günther smiled.

No. We went Dutch. You know. We each pay our own way. Share the bill.

So it wasn’t a date? Günther smiled.

No, just a cup of coffee that ran into two hours. Günther smiled and looked down into his cup. Schultz laughed.

Big brother has it bad. That was a date then. Günther nodded.

Big brother has it really bad. Heinz looked at Günther.

Are you bringing her home some time? Günther shook his head.

    Not yet, but yes.

    Heidi chuckled.

Tell us more. We are all dying to know. The more I hear the more I like. Günther chuckled. He sat with his cup of coffee. He held it between his legs, looking into it, leaning his arms on his legs, smiling.

    How old is she?

    Twenty four.

    Is she blonde?

    Brown hair. Dark. Very dark.

Brown eyes? Günther smiled and looked into his cup.

Beautiful big brown eyes. They talk.

    Long hair?

    Short.

    Tall?

Short. Normal. Five foot four. Tiny compared to me.

    Family?

Brother and sister. Older. Fritz and Hannah.

    Parents?

    Karl and Ursula. Overseas.

Pretty little thing? Günther smiled and nodded.

She is absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful. And a wonderful sexy little figure. Everyone nodded.

    Where does she work?

At the bank. They were all quiet.

    Erika smiled.

Samantha? Günther turned around and looked at Erika.

    You know Samantha? Erika chuckled.

No. But I know who you are talking about. Last time I went to the bank she served me. She has this most amazing wedding ring. Erika put her hand in front of her mouth in shock.

Oh my gosh! Sorry. Sorry Günther. Oh Sorry.

    Günther smiled.

That’s the one. Günther chuckled. Heidi looked at Günther and whispered.

Is she married? Günther shook his head and roared with laughter.

Hell no. Not even close. Erika smiled.

She wears a wedding ring. Günther smiled and shook his head.

Not anymore she doesn’t. Not after today. Heidi grinned.

You sure know all about her. Günther smiled.

    Sure do.

    Schultz smiled.

Lucky for me I am headed over to the bank tomorrow. I’ll see for myself. Günther smiled and nodded.

You do that. Then you tell me. Heinz chuckled.

Guess we are all going to be standing queue tomorrow. Günther chuckled. Heinz roared with laughter.

I have never seen you like this before.

Günther smiled and shook his head.

I might eventually leave home. Heidi smiled.

As long as she can look after you. Really well. Then I’ll be happy. Günther nodded.

I will bring her home when she’s ready. I will. They all smiled at each other, nodding.

Samantha headed home. She opened the door to her flat that she shared with her brother and sister. Her bother Fritz and sister Hannah sat in the lounge. They both looked at her as she came through the door. Samantha put down her bag and smiled.

Helloooooo family. She took her shoes off and headed over to the couch and landed with a loud ‘plonk’ in the huge cushions. Hannah chuckled.

Aren’t you a little late? Samantha nodded.

    I am. Fritz smiled.

    Been on a date?

    Coffee.

    With a man?

    Such a man! Hannah chuckled.

Tall, dark and handsome? Samantha roared with laughter and shook her head.

Tall. Six foot four or more. Dark brown hair. Like chocolate. Beautiful eyes. Brown. Hannah smiled.

    And?

He wears an earring. A little gold ring, a sleeper, in his left ear.

    And?

And he is beautiful. He has broad shoulders. He owns his own business. I.T.

    And? Samantha chuckled.

He wears glasses. And his hair is cut nice and neat. He’s just so beautiful. Fritz smiled.

    Local? Samantha chuckled.

He’s also German. He is so beautiful Fritz. Gorgeous. Like wow! Fritz and Hannah chuckled. Hannah nodded.

    How old is he?

    Twenty seven.

    Fritz smiled.

    Where did you meet him?

At the bank. He always comes up and chats. And today we went for coffee. Fritz nodded. He looked down at Samantha’s ring.

Glad to see your ring has moved. Samantha nodded.

He sat there and actually took it off of my finger and moved it to my other hand. It feels so much better. Heinz and Hannah chuckled. Hannah smiled down at Samantha.

Do you like him? Samantha beamed.

I think I am in love. Really, really in love. He makes my heart beat faster. And when he walked with me he had his hand on my back. Oh he is such a man.

    Hannah laughed out loud.

And then you went for coffee. Samantha nodded.

But we did go Dutch. Hannah nodded.

    Good. Fritz nodded.

He didn’t try to kiss you did he? Samantha chuckled.

No, but I kissed him, on the cheek. Both Fritz and Hannah laughed. Hannah smiled.

You have it bad. Samantha nodded.

    I do.

Samantha smiled as Fritz got up.

You both coming for a jazz session? Samantha nodded.

Five minutes. I need to change into jeans. Fritz nodded.

Get a move on. Samantha got up and headed to her bedroom. Hannah and Fritz looked at each other.

    It’s about time. Hannah nodded.

I so wish this works. She hasn’t ever dated. Well, movies and that, but never a serious boyfriend. Fritz nodded.

The three of them headed out to the nightclub where they had a jazz session. It was a club where everyone got together and jammed. There was no set band. No set songs. It was just a stress reliever, and a night of fun.

Samantha picked up the Saxophone. She chuckled as she put the strap around her neck. She held the Saxophone and let rip on a set of chords. Fritz chuckled.

The kids got it bad. Hannah chuckled and nodded. Samantha roared with laughter.

Samantha spent the evening with her family and their friends. Everyone commented on Samantha and her Saxophone. One of the older men, Jack, laughed quietly.

I can hear what you are thinking, playing that Saxophone like that. Samantha grinned.

Just jealous. They all chuckled as they played.

Fritz, Hannah and Samantha headed home. They walked up the road. Samantha jumped around, excited.

I can’t wait for Friday. Fritz chuckled.

Don’t tell me you are only going to see him on Friday? Samantha grinned.

Don’t rush me. I am just enjoying plodding along. Hannah shook her head. Samantha beamed.

Just wait until you see him. Like yum, yum, yum. They both roared with laughter as Samantha made the motions of licking her fingers with loud slurpy sounds.

Well, you will bring him home eventually, won’t you? Samantha chuckled.

One day. They both shook their heads and smiled.

    CHAPTER 3

Samantha lived for her Friday afternoon coffee dates. She would beam as she stepped out of the bank to find Günther waiting. They always headed over to the coffee shop, with Günther holding her close.

Three months had already gone by. Samantha walked out of the bank on Friday. She looked around. She didn’t see Günther anywhere. She waited for five minutes and frowned. She felt lost. All alone. Empty. Samantha made her way over to the coffee shop and sat down. She ordered her coffee. Samantha stared into her cup. She was so sad. She almost felt blue. As if the world had come to an end. They had been seeing each other on a Friday for three months. He had never kissed her. Or made any advances on her. She sighed as she drank her coffee. Was this the end?

The owner of the coffee shop walked over to Samantha.

Samantha? Samantha looked up and nodded. She handed her a little envelope. Samantha smiled and took it.

Thanks. Samantha looked at the envelope. She closed her eyes. It was probably a ‘Dear John’. Or rather, a ‘Dear Samantha’. Samantha flipped the envelope over and opened it hesitantly. She smiled as she read. ‘Sam sweetheart, I will be stuck in a meeting. Only getting out at five. Please wait for me. Don’t go. Günther’. Samantha smiled and let out a huge breath. She was so relieved. Samantha took in another deep breath of air and let it out. The owner came over.

You okay? Samantha smiled and nodded.

Your husband flew in here as if it was the end of the world earlier this afternoon when he gave it to me. Told me a thousand times not to forget. Samantha smiled.

Thanks so much. The owner smiled and walked off. Samantha smiled. She whispered.

    My husband.

Samantha waited. She smiled as Günther walked in. He sat down and gave Samantha a huge hug and a kiss on the forehead. Samantha smiled.
