Prologue
Talia is a widowed mother who finds her life has become mundane. She experiences the same routine every day with little excitement or activity other than work. She desperately misses her deceased husband, Peter. Although it’s been three years since Peter’s death, she spends much of her time with a glass of wine and the photo albums. She replays YouTube videos of the family and lives in the past within the memories of the way things were when her husband was healthy and her family was together and happy.
Although Talia is attractive, she has let herself go and doesn’t perform many of the feminine routines and rituals she used to enjoy when she was with Peter. It’s been years since she wore make up or bought a fancy pair of lingerie. She wears her hair the same way every day and doesn’t mind that the gray is starting to show.
But Talia is about to have her world rocked by none other than herself when she finds that she’s trapped in her own fantasies filled with wanton lust and relentless desire. Her irrational attachment to a co-worker from long ago becomes an obsession and a release for her pent up sexual frustrations when she casts him as her perfect lover in her intense fantasies. The freedom of having these fantasies means she doesn’t ever have to worry about hang-ups or being turned down or turned away because anything goes. Or does it?
Talia’s Tale
Talia is a Latina woman who has recently suffered the loss of her husband. Talia and Peter were together for 17 years and married for 13 of those years. They were both relatively old in comparison to most of their friends who had gotten married in their twenties, some of whom were now on their second marriage.
Talia and Peter had a very active sex life until he became ill. It seemed to creep up on them slowly at first and neither of them thought too much about the fact that Peter seemed to be getting tired more often than before. Eventually, Peter had a battery of tests ordered by his physician and it was discovered that he tested positive for Hepatitis C. This was an incredible blow to Talia who knew that it could only get worse as the years went on and in spite of all the changes they made to their lifestyle to prolong the life of Peter’s liver, the virus continued to drain Peter of his energy and affect his mood. Once the hepatitis was discovered, Peter knew that the quality of his life would be reduced and ultimately, the virus would take his life.
Three years ago, after a lengthy bout with cancer, Peter slipped away in the bed they shared together in their home. He did not want to die in a hospital and Talia dutifully cared for him when he could no longer care for himself. She attempted to read to him and just spend time lying with him, but he slept for the majority of the time and when he passed, Talia felt she had grieved his loss many times already. Watching the paramedics remove his lifeless body from the bed was one of the most painful moments in Talia’s life, and she wasn’t sure she would be able to recover from the loss of her best friend.
Years would go by and Talia would go to work and care for their young child, Michael, who took the loss of his father especially hard. Talia did what she could to find ways to put Michael in situations with other strong male role-models, but nothing would come close to serving as a replacement for Michael’s father.
Every day, Talia drove her son to school and then went to work. She worked long days. Talia never completed college and only took a few college courses over the years. She was already older than most of the women where she worked and she felt as though she was in a rut. She watched other young women come in with little experience and their careers would take off because of that little piece of a paper. Without a degree, Talia was certain that she would remain in her boring role as an Administrative Assistant. At this point in her life, her home life had become routine, her work life had become routine and she was isolated most of the time.
Talia turned to the internet as a way to pass the time and would post about the miserable failures of the current President and the politicians who were driving a stake through the heart of America. She often wondered what kind of world would be left for her son. The days of a simple life seemed to be over. The memories she had as a child with her parents were a great contrast to the days she shared with her son. They were very distant. It was as if there was a hole in her heart that was only being filled up with the misery of being alone.
So Talia buried herself in her work, and when she got home she made dinner for her son and helped him with his homework. Following his shower, he would lock himself in his room and play video games and Talia would surf online: reading about current events, the news, watching YouTube videos and getting lost in the virtual world of the World Wide Web until it was time for sleep. Unfortunately, Talia didn’t sleep much. She suffered from insomnia for years and she would lay awake for hours, thinking about Peter, thinking about old friends, thinking about the past, and living inside her many memories.
One day when Talia was online, she noticed she had a message in her inbox on her Facebook account. Talia rarely received messages and only had a few friends that she had connected
