By the time her fifth meeting ended, Laurel Horne had fantasized about at least half of the men she’d seen

She let out a sigh. How long before the BuzzKids meeting? she asked the intercom on

desk

Not long, it replied with a male voice. "But you still have some time. They called to say they’ll be a bit late, they were stuck in traffic. So they’ll arrive about half an

Half an hour. That gave her a bit of time for her relaxation.

Ok. Let me know when they arrive.

I’ll buzz you, the intercom voice said. Laurel could almost hear him smiling. But she didn’t have a good enough answer, so she said nothing.

The day had been draining, even by her standards. Laurel prided herself on her work ethic. Other people had called her a workaholic, back when she had time for social interaction. The BuzzKids meeting was the last on the schedule, and she was all the happier for it. She loved her work, that’s why she’d dedicated her life to it. That’s how she made her fortune and built HorneTech from the ground up. But some days, she just wanted to close up shop and head on home for a good soak in the tub and an even better roll in

She spun her chair around to shut down the window blinders. As she did, she got a good look at her office. Somehow, it felt more like home than her actual home. Her apartment was just a place she went to sleep. Her office was where she spent her days, and most of her nights.

Her laptop woke up to her touch. The usual background photo of her and her college girlfriends was there. She loved them all dearly, but that wasn’t why
