    CHAPTER ONE

A group of friends who knew each other from a young age strived to do better in their lives than the way they were brought up, they had not been miss-treated in any way but all came from poor family’s and lived in a rundown neighbourhood. Their parents worked for basic wage, which was not nearly enough to give them a good life so in other words life for them was poor. The kids were determined to change their lives for the better so they got stuck into their schoolwork and organised study groups every chance they had to learn more outside what their school would ever be able to teach them. They had different ideas of what they wanted to be but their main goal was the same, to have a better life. Tara was a few years older than the others were and had her head firmly on her shoulders, she was the one that pushed everyone that little bit further which sometimes came to blows but in the end, they remembered she was thinking of them. Tara lived with her mum and two brothers, her dad had left when her youngest brother was only six months old and her mother had told them that things got too much for him. She could see how that could happen but never forgave her father for running off and leaving them and had never heard from him since, which in a way she was glad. Her mum worked two jobs to try to make enough money to support them; she cleaned the high school in the morning and worked in the corner shop during the day while the kids were at school. Her older brother tried his best to look after his family since their dad left now that he was the man of the house. After school he went straight to work in the local supermarket till late at night and giving most of his wages to his mum keeping enough to get the things he needed then had to do his school work before going to bed leaving him run down most of the time. Her younger brother was too young to have a proper job so before school every morning he delivered the papers for the shop his mum worked in. As for Tara she was the smartest one in her family, which did not do much good at the time because things were hard so to help with bringing money into the house she worked at the local fish and chip shop, she hated it but knew it was a means to an end. She was determined to make her life better. Lea lived a couple of doors down from Tara and they had been best mates for as long as she could remember. Her family was in pretty much the same shape as hers except that her dad was still around but was in a wheel chair from the car crash he was in a few years ago and was not getting much money on disability. Lea also worked at the fish and chip shop but hated it, she hated how she smelt every night after work but there was nothing else available that she was qualified to do. She had a younger sister who worked in the hairdressers and was the most selfish spoilt person you could ever come across, she very rarely gave her mum any money from her wages and spent most of it on make-up and clothes and going out with her mates. Ryan had been going with Lea since they started high school and had their difficulties like most people but what was getting between them the most was how bad things had gotten in their lives. He was an only child who always done well at school and helped his father working at building sites when he could, which was not an ideal job but he liked the idea their design’s and how they came together. His mother worked in the school canteen earning very little money but apart from their money troubles things were not too bad but he wished for a better life. Aaron lived round the corner from them and worked in the hospital as a porter in the evenings, he lived with his parents, his two brothers, and three sisters, which made money even tighter for them. His mum worked as a receptionist in an office complex, his father worked at the council sweeping the streets, and his siblings did their bit by having part time jobs to help. Things got a bit bad for him when he started high school; he was struggling with his sexuality and finally came to terms with being gay and met up with Tony at a nightclub. Tony lived a couple of streets away from the rest of them and only got to know them when they started high school. He was a little better off than the others but not much, his mum was a nurse at the hospital and his father worked as a journalist and let him help working most weekends. He had an older sister who was at college and a younger brother who had only started primary school. They all got on very well and spent as much time as they could together, it seemed when they were with each other, talking about how things were going to be their dull lives’ seemed to fade away. They got on as if they knew each other forever and helped each other if they had any problems. They found it hard but were determined to strive to get what they wanted and it paid off. After what felt like a lifetime they left school passing all their exams at top of their class and went onto college and worked twice as hard and finally got the qualifications they wanted but more importantly what they needed to go into the careers they so wanted for a better life. Over the next few years, they put everything into their careers and worked harder than they thought they possibly could but made sure they always made time to see each other. A number of years later when things were on level ground they decided now would be a perfect time to take a few days off, get away from their busy lives, and have some well-deserved fun. They looked on the internet for places to go but nothing jumped out at them, they wanted to get away from everything and everyone and just be together like they used to and have fun. One night when Aaron was at work one of his colleagues had mentioned a small town he drove through a few years ago and he remembered how lovely it was so he looked it up and showed his mates who seemed to love it and decided that’s where they were going. They had everything packed and ready to go and were on their way, they couldn’t’t wait to get out of town away from their busy lives especially Tara. She was the principal of one of the countries most popular private schools. She loved her job very much and had worked very hard to get to where she was. She was a very beautiful girl with long dark hair blue eyes and a very good figure, she loved hanging out with her mates when she could which was not that often which is why she insisted they go away this weekend. Tara’s best mate loved fashion, which came from her childhood of pass me downs, and a year ago, she opened her own fashion shop with a friend she met in college, she also taught fashion at the local college which she thoroughly enjoyed. She had short dark hair and hazel eyes and was tall and beautiful. Her boyfriend Ryan, who was driving, was a little younger and was becoming one of the best architects in the country. He and Lea were planning to get married within the next few years once their careers had settled a little. He was well built, six foot, blue eyes and spiky blonde hair. In the back with Tara was Aaron who was one of the youngest doctors at their local hospital, which made his parents very happy. He was about the same height
