WINNING LETTER

I FIRST read about Alison Botha in YOU when I was still in school. The details of what happened to her were as horrific and shocking then as they are now. It was absolutely remarkable that she survived what she’d endured and I followed Alison’s life over the years, amazed by her will to keep going.

I can’t imagine what she must have thought or felt when she heard the two men who’d attacked her – criminals meant to spend their lives behind bars – were being released. With one of them she actually found out in a roundabout way instead of being informed by the relevant authorities.

I don’t know why it was done. Yes, I get the law was changed but there are many other factors that need to be considered and the lack of transparency from the department of correctional services doesn’t inspire confidence. There are too many questions that remain
