About this ebook

A paranormal erotic romance novel. Meet the supernatural masters of passion and seduction, feeding upon the erotic dreams and pleasure of humankind.

Ethan is an incubus, cast out of the covey by his succubus queen, after his actions directly led to the death of another incubus. He adopts the business of a dead man, and attempts to live as a mortal.
When Ethan finds Madison, he knows he should just fly away and leave her to live a normal, human life. But the incubi are hive creatures, he struggles living alone, and allows himself to believe he might find love and happiness in the arms of this shy young woman.
Meanwhile, the demonic creature hunting the incubi will not stop with the death of just one black-winged male, he seeks the destruction of Ethan's entire species. After Ethan leaves, the covey is attacked again, and half of the remaining brothers are destroyed, leaving only two surviving males to protect their succubus queen. It is not enough.
The queen leads her mates in tracking down Ethan, hoping that the forsaken warrior might save them from starvation. It is a choice which will place the entire covey, as well as Ethan and Madison, directly into the path of the bloodthirsty monster hunting them.

Please note: This book is intended for readers 18 years and older, there is strong language and explicit sexual encounters, including a steamy ménage scene near the end of the book. As the legends suggest, both incubus and succubus demons feed upon sexual energy stolen from sleeping humans. While this might suggest questionable consent, they are actually very generous and considerate lovers.

    Be careful what you dream...

Laws created to prevent demons and humans from consorting outside of the Dream. But there is something about Madison that draws him - despite the consequences.

Madison Gray was hired to do a job, but all she can think about are the erotic dreams she keeps having about her new employer. To make matters worse, he keeps looking at her as if he knows exactly what she's considering.

    Creatures of the Night

Vampyren are born of Lilith and sired by a demon. Offspring were corrupted by the demon’s blood, which carries the taint of hell and continues to infect any creature unfortunate enough to come into contact with it. They are grouped by covens - like witches.

Lilin are born of Lilith and sired by an angel. They are grouped by coveys - like quail. The female are succubi. The males are incubi.

Incubi outnumber succubi by nine to one, it is an evolutionary flaw developed by the need for numerous males to protect a single female when she is of breeding age, similar to bees protecting their hive queen.

Lycan are born of women and sired by Cain, after the curse was placed upon him. They are creatures with heightened emotional states, capable of extreme violence as well as extreme devotion. They are grouped by packs - like wolves.

I have been one acquainted with the night. I have walked out in rain -- and back in rain. I have outwalked the furthest city light. I have looked down the saddest city lane. I have passed by the watchman on his beat, and dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain. I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet, then far away an interrupted cry came over houses from another street, but not to call me back or say good-bye; and further still at an unearthly height, O luminary clock against the sky, proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right.

I have been one acquainted with the night. ~ Robert Frost

    Chapter One

There was nothing strange about this house when compared to the rest of the homes on the street. It was large and elegant with a well manicured lawn and neatly trimmed gardens, yet Madison Gray couldn’t manage to move her feet any closer to the door than her current position beside the stone fronted mailbox at the curb.

What was wrong with her today?

As the interior decorator hired to stage the model homes for this development she had been into all of these homes at least a dozen times during their construction phase over three years ago, including this one, but that was before the current owner had moved in.

Instantly she recalled the exotic looking black convertible that had pulled up to the curb almost exactly where her rusty old Ford Escort was now parked.

The house had been sold and she had been there to remove the remainder of her props, but had been waylaid by Richard Marsh, the money behind the development, and the man still trying to convince her to have an affair with him despite his wife and three kids.

Jesus Christ! Richard had gasped as the convertible parked beside them. Is that a 1963 Jaguar XK-E?

Madison had blinked and turned to look more closely at the car, only to find her gaze captured by a tanned expanse of bare chest and rock hard abs curving down into black cargo pants which hinted at powerful, well sculpted thighs.

It took a moment for her to realize she was staring and in horror she jerked her gaze up to see if the driver noticed.

Eyes as gray as a summer storm were locked on hers, a slight smile curving the edge of his firm mouth.

Yes. That warm baritone voice had answered Richard’s question, but those gray eyes never left off their journey down the length of her body. I’m Ethan Cox.

Mister Cox! Richard proclaimed ecstatically. I wasn’t expecting you until tomorrow, but the house is completely finished. This is Maddy, she gives all the homes that finishing touch only a woman can manage.

Perfect. Those gray eyes flicked up to meet hers once more.

Madison felt a wave of heat burn her cheeks, and would have turned to run if Richard had not chosen that very moment to laugh and clap a huge palm to her back, which inadvertently knocked all of the paperwork they’d been discussing right out of her hands.

Instantly the car door opened and the perfectly sculpted Ethan Cox had moved to help her catch loose sheets before they could be scattered by the wind.

For his part Richard had divided his attention between helping and asking questions about the car and Ethan’s trip up from Florida, but all that Madison had been able to think of was how she desperately wished to be anywhere else in the world but groveling at the feet of a half naked man that she couldn’t help stealing peeks at every few seconds.

She had never thought she would meet anyone who could intimidate her the way he did, and had gone out of her way to avoid ever crossing paths with him again.

    Until now.

Oh why had she ever agreed to have this meeting? Just thinking his name was enough to make her heart start pounding and make her wonder for the millionth time how she was ever going to manage speaking to him without literally fainting dead away.

There was a flicker of motion in one of the huge front windows and Madison desperately hoped that he wasn’t actually standing in there wondering why she was frozen to his front walk like a ridiculous living statue.

Biting down on her bottom lip she forced herself to put one foot in front of the other and take those agonizing steps up to the massive redwood doors.

There was a heavy iron knocker on each side, but she felt that using one would be pretentious so she reached for the doorbell instead.

Her finger had only just brushed the button when the door opened and she found herself once more looking up into the face that had become a frequent feature in her dreams of late.

At least this time he wasn’t half naked. Instead he was wearing a tightly fitted gray t-shirt that did nothing to hide the perfect contours of his chest or abdomen. His shirt was tucked into faded jeans that hugged his butt and amplified the muscles in his thighs and calves as he turned to gesture her into the home.

    Madison, please come in.

Oh God, he had remembered her name!

    She strangled a sigh.

    Focus, Maddy!

She had to get her head focused back on her business and stop acting like a teenager with her first crush.

Good morning Mister Cox, Richard asked me to…

Please, call me Ethan. His smile was warm and instantly drew her gaze to his strong mouth, filling her mind up with images of forbidden fantasies that had a direct impact on her hormone levels.

Was it possible he’d actually gotten sexier since the last time she’d seen him?

He tilted his head slightly, looking at her from beneath amused brows.

Would you like to sit down?

She realized she was practically panting and had to mentally shake herself back to reality.

This was not one of her all too frequent bedtime fantasies, and she was going to really piss him off if she didn’t get her act together and offer him the help Richard had promised.

Maybe I should see the rooms that you’d like to have redecorated? She suggested, nervously stepping past him.

Oh god, he smelled good, like a summer rainstorm combined with just the hint of some exotic cologne.

Richard didn’t give me very much information over the phone, but he was adamant about getting it done as quickly as possible.

Yes. He did seem less than eager to have you pulled away from your other assignments. Ethan chuckled, closing the door behind her before casually leaning up against one of the four huge pillars that marked each corner of the grand entry. His manner clearly suggesting that he had all the time in the world.

What does he have you working on now? I was led to believe that they had finished development in this area.

They have, she assured him, nervously shifting her weight from one foot to the other and trying keep her gaze on anything but the incredibly sexy man standing before her. Richard is preparing a new site just an hour north of here.

    He’s ambitious.

He has a lot of employees that depend on him for a living, Madison smiled politely.

Ah, yes. He laughed softly, but the deep baritone of it seemed to reverberate through her body. And from that anxious expression I must be keeping you from earning yours.

Without giving her a chance to deny the observation, he nodded for her to follow and headed down the hall, into the kitchen. It was styled in an ultra modern black with granite countertops, gray stone floors, and massive stainless steel appliances.

Madison had designed the layout and color scheme herself after Richard had informed her that the new owner was a sophisticated young bachelor.

It was spacious and elegant enough for entertaining anyone from business clients, to personal guests, but also had a strong masculine feel to it that would make him feel more at home in a room usually dominated by women.

He’d made a few alterations since she’d created the room, including trading out the modern dining set for a much heavier looking antique collection.

Please, if you would allow me? He offered her one of the tall backed chairs.

Spread out across the massive table before her were photographs torn from a magazine, without much care for whether the image was damaged or not in the process. Creating an overall impression of thoughtless chaos and a sloppiness she would not have expected from a man rumored to be meticulous about his home and business.

Madison accepted the seat he offered and tried not to notice the warm scent of his musk as he sat down in the chair beside her.

She reached for one of the pictures, then hesitated and pushed it aside to look more closely at the table beneath.

Is this African Blackwood? she gasped.

His grin exposed perfect white teeth.

    You dabble in carpentry?

No. I mean…sort of, I guess. I see a lot of unique furniture in my line of work, but I have never seen an entire dining set made out of Blackwood. This is extraordinary, where did you find it?

He shrugged broad shoulders and those gray eyes were lit with humor.

    It was a gift.

"A gift?" Madison’s voice squeaked. From whom, the Queen of England?

For just a second she thought she saw something dark flicker across his eyes, although his mouth still remained turned up in a smile. It was gone again so quickly she couldn’t be sure if it had actually been there at all.

Sorry, it’s really none of my business.

She grabbed up a handful of the clippings and attempted to focus her attention on them rather than the heat coming off the man beside her, but she was so distracted it took her a moment to realize she was looking at pictures of bedrooms.

Although anyone could have made that mistake, she mentally assured herself, considering how all of the images were so usually dark and almost dungeon-like in appearance.

Why would anyone want to turn their bedroom into a dungeon?

Madison gave herself a mental shake.

Nope, she wasn’t going to allow herself to get caught up in the motive for it. She was just there to do her job.

Was that one actually a scene from the Phantom of the Opera? Maybe he was one of those obsessed fans that ended up patterning their entire world around the fantasy they were possessed with.
