Rackety Packety Rhymes - Brian Allen

    The Princess and the Frog

The Princess thought I really can’t

    Leave everything to chance.

I really ought to wash my hair

    Before the palace dance.

The king my father’s loving, kind,

He hopes this dance will be

A chance to find a handsome Prince

Who falls in love with me.

I think that I would rather wed

A Prince whom I have found,

But though I’ve kept a watchful eye

    I’ve not seen one around.

The Princess felt the chance for her

    To meet the perfect one

    Was clearly, obviously so bad

    That it was really none.

And then the Princess called to mind

    A fairy tale that tells

Of how a Prince was made a frog

    Through wicked witch’s spells.

The castle had a lovely lake,

    The Princess ran down there.

She sat upon a handy log

    And soon forgot her hair.

For there she saw her future Prince,

    Close by upon a log.

She knew him even though he looked,

    Exactly Like a frog.

He was a very handsome frog,

    Bright green with yellow band.

    The Princess thought him beautiful

    And offered him her hand.

The frog or Prince, if you prefer,

Jumped in the lake to swim

To where the Princess waited and

    The Princess said to him,

"I know exactly what you need,

    It’s love you sadly lack,

And that I have indeed for you,

And that will bring you back."

And saying which she picked him up

And kissed him on his nose.

    Immediately she was a frog.

    Or so the story goes.

For years and years the little frogs

    Lived really happily.

They swam and plopped and splashed about,

    Contented as could be.

But all the time they knew that they

    Should really be on land,

Doing what they were meant to do,

    And ruling hand in hand.

But this sad tale has no sad end,

    For after many years,

A stroke of luck rescued the frogs,

At least that’s what one hears.

One day as they sat on their log

    A mighty wizard passed.

He saw at once their dreadful plight

    And promptly smiled and asked,

"If I am right I think that you,

    Unhappy looking pair,

Have been made into little frogs

    This sloppy pond to share.

Princess and Prince are who you are,

And I’ll soon bring you back,

For I am powerful and I have

    That very special knack."

And saying which the wizard stooped

    And waved his magic wand

    Over the hopeful little frogs,

    And shattered their dread bond.

And there the Prince and Princess stood,

    Their thanks were clearly read.

The Princess kissed the wizard’s robe,

The Prince bowed low his head.

The wizard said the wicked witch

    Would never strike again

    For he had cancelled out her powers;

She could no more cause pain.

The king and queen were overjoyed

    Their daughter had returned,

And better still to meet her Prince,

    A Prince she’d surely earned.

The king and queen at once decreed

    A wedding was the thing.

To finish off this happy tale,

    They even bought the ring.

An so the Princess had her Prince

With whom she planned to share

Her life and love and all because
