Why I Am Not A Conservative - Riley Hood

    FOREWORD

When I was three years old, my mother taught me to read by using Dr. Seuss books, one of which was the story of Yertle the Turtle. Yertle was Dr. Seuss's personification of Adolf Hitler, and at the bottom of the turtle stack was a turtle named Mac. He got very tired of being stepped on, and having the weight of all the turtles bear down on him.

I’ve written this book to give voice to all the Macs who are sick of being stepped on. It’s a view from down here approach. It’s how our culture war looks on a day-to-day, work, home and family level. This book is also about how our national policies have affected the everyday American.

This book is for everyone, but primarily aimed at Christians who are trying to synthesize the faith with a philosophy that was birthed during the French Revolution; it was called conservatism. The Conservatuer sat to the right of speaker in the assembly, and the communists, socialists, and atheists sat to the left, hence the beginnings of right and left in our political usage. These conservatives weren’t, and today’s conservatives are not Christian, so why have Christians surrendered their thought processes to them, when we are to have, the mind of Christ?

I’ve also stated my Christian worldview upfront. I am what I am today because of God’s grace. I would like to thank my wife Janice, for the encouragement to start writing.

May God grant our nation repentance and revival.

"The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God."

    Psalms 9:17.

    I. WHY I’M NOT A LIBERAL

"The instruments of the churl are evil: he deviseth wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the needy speaketh right. But the liberal soul deviseth liberal things; and by liberal things he shall stand." Isaiah 32:7-8.

With the title of this book being Why I’m Not a Conservative, you, the reader, might assume I’m a Liberal. I’m not. I’m a born-again Christian with a Biblical worldview; I believe in the Bible as God’s inerrant word. The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. Psalm 19:7. I believe Scripture interprets scripture, and scripture interprets all else. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. I Timothy 3:16.

I’ve been a born-again believer since April 7, 1984. I believe that a man is saved by grace through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9. Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost, which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior. Titus 3:5-6.

Therefore, our good works don’t save us; but are evidence that Christ saved us, because they are God-ordained. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works: which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
