A selection of poems and short stories gleaned from Paul Chapmans time in England then on the Isle of Skye in Scotland and his travels through France Portugal and Spain.
Paul Chapman has written three other books. One book of short stories entitled Tales of a Northern Shepherd. Followed by two books of poetry Poems of the Sea, and Poems of a Travelling man. All published by Smashword.
SEASPIRIT.
It was a cold wet October night were the rain was turning to a wet snow. Just to get out of the house Phil and I decided to go for a beer. Phil was 57 and had worked most of his working life as an engineer for the health service in Staffordshire. Phil sat looking at his pint of beer in Weatherspoon’s bar in Stoke on Trent. He was coming up for retirement in a few months and was thinking about what to do with his life.
Phil had opted for early retirement from the health service. He knew he would get a good pension as he’d been an engineer, rising to Chief engineer for 33 years. Phil was small and wiry, a no nonsense type of guy, and to him there was no grey areas, all was black or white.
We talked and had another beer, the bar was getting filled up and people were nodding or saying hello as they came in. Is there anything you always wanted to but have never done?
I asked him. Mm.
he said. We had another beer, and chattered about life and about how we’d both ended up in Stoke. It was a while later that he replied. Yes
he said I’d like to buy a yacht and sod off.
He changed the subject and ordered another beer, friends stopped by and we chatted about life in general. After about an hour and a fair few more beers I
