Michael Guerini
Michael Guerini is a horseman, author and scientist from Gilroy, California. From an early age he gained valuable experience working with his family to train horses. To this day he continues to work with his family to develop a whole horse relationship training and education program. Michael studies Dressage, performance horses and teaches routinely on the merits of good horsemanship and improving the relationship of the horse and rider (www.dunmovinranch.com). As a scientist, Michael is involved in the areas of genetics, microbiology and most things relating to the world of biotechnology. In 2011, Michael introduced his first work of fiction about a scientist who becomes a veterinarian and puts all his skills to work in solving medical problems in animals (Old Towne: Beginnings). A rich work with both human and animal characters and a fun wholesome read, great for youth interested in how the worlds of veterinary medicine and biotechnology work. Michael is a Lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association and a Lifetime (Founding Pioneers) Member of the Western Dressage Association of America. Michael has authored two non-fiction books on Ground Work and Advanced Responsive Riding for the horsemen and horsewomen. With his unique blend of ground work, dressage and general colt starting philosophy, he can help you build a stronger relationship with your horse. My first work of fiction, Old Towne: Beginnings was released in December 2011. My first work of Poetry/Free verse, Of Horses & Life, was released as a free publication in April of 2012.

INTRODUCTION -- A few words about this work
Throughout our life, we continue to grow and develop by learning new concepts, ideas, and ways of succeeding. Our life with horses is no different. From the first day that I sat on the back of a horse I started to learn...learn from the horse. The horse, when we listen, is a most excellent teacher. Complementing the lessons from our horses with information from professionals, mentors, coaches, and friends helps us to grow as horsemen and horsewomen. This collection of works presented in Dr. Mike's Horsemanship Horse Owner's Modern Keys for Success comes from much of what I have learned from many horses and colleagues. Added to my knowledge is that of my mentor and coach -- Barbara Guerini, my mother.
I set out to create a book that summarizes many of the thoughts and ideas that I embrace when coaching people to ride or that I teach in my horsemanship clinics.
Thank you for taking the time to purchase and read this book.
CHAPTER 1 - Essays on Horsemanship
The 6 C’s of Horsemanship: Building Blocks for Success in Relationship Training
Many of us benefit from Natural Horsemanship and Foundation Training methods. We dive into books, watch videos, attend seminars and go to clinics to learn all we can to develop a strong emotional, mental and physical foundation in all of our horses. These methods use a building block
approach to help us focus on assembling a good horse that is willing and able to perform. In this approach to training each lesson needs to be learned and firmly in place before we can teach the next lesson.
I believe very few people are born great horsemen and women, the majority of us work all our lives to become better horsemen and women. As I work to become a better horseman, I have had to step back and take a look at my own building blocks.
The 6 C’s of Horsemanship are the Building Blocks for Success that I teach at my clinics and use in my own barn.
The 6 C’s of Horsemanship are building blocks
for having Confidence, keeping Control, maintaining Consistency, riding with Collection, having Compassion and keeping an attitude of Calmness. Together these ideas help us build a lasting relationship with our horse.
So how do we use the 6 C’s of Horsemanship to gain success in the saddle?
When we ride,
