Chapter One

Asia Taylor stood in one of halls just above the bleachers of the track and field stadium. She reminisced on all the games and tournaments she had been a part of at Western Michigan University.

Man, I’m going to miss this place.

It was almost impossible for her to leave. With one hand holding onto her cap, she felt the light breeze, which blew her tassel against her face and her hair in every direction across her back. Asia closed her eyes to take in a deep breath. Her time at the university had finally come to an end. This was it. It was all over.

A half hour ago, she took her last steps in Miller Auditorium. When she heard them play the National Anthem and call her name to receive her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Human Services Administration, that’s when she couldn’t resist the tears. It was then she knew she was ready for her new journey in life.

I know Mom and Dad aren’t going to be pleased with my decision, but it’s time to leave the nest now.

Asia took in another deep breath as more tears began to flow down her face. She wiped them away slowly, careful because of her perfectly designed long fingernails. Her gown flapped in the breeze as she traveled down memory lane. Nevertheless, the world was an adventure she was ready to explore, but still she didn’t mind trying to delay the process when it came to leaving WMU.

I can stand here forever. This used to be me and Sean’s hangout spot. We used to just sit up here during our breaks to blow off some tension. All that studying! It finally paid off.

Someone approached from behind her, and she turned around to see who it was. Sean hurried toward her with his gown swaying like a cape and his cap in his hand.

Asia, I knew you were here! How did you get past everyone so fast? We were all looking for you, including your family. We’re going out to celebrate. Are you going with the gang or your family? From the sound of things, they have something big for you.

I know, Sean. I’ve suspected it for some time now. They’re having a party for me, but I’ll act surprised of course, and you better not blow my cover!

"Who me? Come on, A. I’ve been your partner in crime since time began. We’re like Clyde and Bonnie. How do you think I knew where you were? I know everything about you, Ms. Lady."

Well, apparently you didn’t know the two partners in crime were Bonnie and Clyde, not Clyde and Bonnie. Asia laughed.

Excuse me! I thought school was out. I guess even after graduation, some habits are just unbreakable.

I know, right? We had some good times up here, Sean. Asia held his hand. You’ve been a good friend to me. I know you’re older than me, but I’m the mature one, the one who keeps everything in order.

Sean looked back at her. Ok, if you think so. I don’t remember things like that. But I do have to admit, you’ve helped me stay focused. It wasn’t easy balancing fulltime work and school at the same time. Come here. Give me a hug. I wouldn’t have made it without you pushing me. Academics were always a challenge for me, especially that college math.

Look, big head, that’s what best friends do. They look out for each other, Asia exclaimed.

She gave him a hug. Come on, let’s get going.

Sean pulled her back toward him. Wait, I want to say something.

What, man? You’re always serious. We can chill now, Ocean Boy. She stared into his blue eyes, reminded of how it always seemed like
