Unleashed Beauty - James Aa. Keister
Chapter One
Let's take an ugly little caterpillar and put it into a jar. Throw in some leaves and a branch off a tree. Poke holes into the lid for air and leave it sit on a shelf. After a while we come back to look in on our tiny little hairy pet, who once was nothing more than a multicolored mass of wiggly crawling flesh with a dozen or so legs. Two big black shiny eyes. A leaf eating machine. So we glance through the glass at the tiny thing that no longer crawled around on it's branch. Instead, it's hanging by a tiny thin thread in an even uglier looking brown sack called a cocoon. What happened to the insect, we wonder? Did it die? No...it's changing, but at the moment we don't know whats inside or what it's changing into. So each day we look in on our tiny hidden pet. Then one day, a week or so later, we see movement inside the ugly brown shell of a cocoon. Something stirs. So we keep a close eye on it. A day or two goes by and before our eyes something wonderful begins to emerge from the cocooned prison. Something new...something unleashed...something...beautiful.
Staggeringly it pulls itself from the shell. Squeezing out the hole it had made to escape from. At first it looks to be just another caterpillar, but then something magical happens. It begins to unfurl it's wings. Spreading them out wide. Letting the air help to dry them as it slowly waves them with colored splendor. Intricately designed. Delicately created, and now let loose of it's prison. Just to be captured in another...your jar! So you take the fluttering insect outside and uncap the jar to let your little captive butterfly loose into the skies. At first it waves at the wind with it's wings. It wavers at the rim of the jar. Slowly spreading it's wings back and forth, then without warning it lifts off and flies away. You stand watching it as it disappears into the distance. And as a smile slides across your lips, you get to thinking. What else have I unleashed upon these lands? And what changes are about to conspire?
You ponder. But in reality, it's not the change that should have you worried. Its what will come...with those changes.
Chapter Two
They ran as fast as their tired legs could take them. Sticking close to the main paths the humans had made, back before the great turning of human kind into lycan. These humans pathway were their safeguard in finding the Forest Felt village. Even though they had been there before, it had been years ago. And they would need the paths to remember their way. Striding along side one another, they ran in galloping strides as their clawed paws hit the ground with soft thuds. They were trying to stay as quiet as they could. Not wanting to draw any unwanted attention. Their lighter colored fur blended well with the autumn's fall colors. Giving them a stealthy advantage. They were quick and moving fast. Holding an important message. One they needed to relay to the Forest fang leader.
They had remembered making this same run years ago during a war between themselves and some rebel humans. Kenti of the Forest Felt clan had helped by sending his son Karmis with over a thousand wolves to help in their campaign. But that was tiny compared to what was to come. So these two were on a mission to report to Kenti as to what was coming. Until now, Kenti had always believed that his people's whole world revolved around their own lands. He knew that there were other lands beyond his own but hoped that he could keep his own from those other lands. Which is why Kenti declared the southern most lands forbidden. They were considered to be Felon fang and Fury fang infested lands. Thus keeping his own people and those of the other fangs safe in this beautiful plot of land surrounded by water.
And so far they were...but now the time has come... a new war was on the horizon and Zelos along side his mate Ammet were on their way, in hopes that Kenti's people and their sheer numbers could help. So onward they ran with only one thought in mind...to get the message through. They paced through the storm that had hit them hard. Stopping only long enough to eat and rest. Of course, getting out of the pouring rain, did their spirits some good. Giving them a renewed sense of strength to push on. The trip to the north was a long one, driving them through some very dangerous territory. Having to make their way past villages of Rebel humans, who only wished to kill the lycan. Past hordes of viscous Fury fangs. Called Fierce fangs by the Furtive fang wolves. Who also wanted nothing more than to kill and eat their prey. And then through lands they were unfamiliar with. Even though they had made the trek before..the landscape had changed, making it quite a challenge to navigate. But Zelos knew, as long as he stayed heading north, they would eventually find their way. Ammet touched his arm as she kept pace. When he glanced over at her, she nodded out toward the wooded area on their left. She had seen movement. And she was right, as their worst fears burst out from the trees.
Chapter Three
The years had fared well on Aucky. But Kenti...well that was another thing. He used his powers to try and stay young looking and healthy, but inside...it was yet another problem, causing him to age. Eating at his soul like cancer. And with his clock winding down to it's ultimate end, he spent more and more time on his own. Karmis and Munch were temporarily in charge of the village. But Kenti had other plans for that. He knew that the message of war was already on it's way. So he had sent out word to all the other fang villages. As well as to any human inhabitants. He was going to rally the largest army anyone had ever seen or known. With the help of every fang and human alike, should they wish to help, he hoped to swoop through the enemy lines like and eagle, swift and true. But with these plans...there was going to be some setbacks...big setbacks as well as causalities.
It all played out in his mind again and again. But he had to keep it to himself. To tell others would only cause him more chaos. Which he did not want. Then there would be questions...lots of questions. Yes...he did have the answers, but there's where the chaos would be formed. So he allowed it to play out in his mind like a movie. He could see the whole splay of the war as it was going to happen. Trying to devise every scenario, every ending, but they always ended the same way. Some changed, when it came to others, but for himself...not a chance. Well...except for one and he was not about to do that, which may save his life, just to jeopardize that which would take the life of a loved one. With all this in mind, it drove him to solitude. He knew that his wife Aucky could sense something was wrong with just a touch of her hand and he did not want to involve her.
For months, he had his men working out toward the center of all his lands. They were there to build a new central village called the Free fang village. One large enough to house every Wolventhrope clan in the four known lands Kenti and the other fangs had made over the last five hundred plus years. Hoping to save his kind and that of the others. He knew the Free village would be ready, well before the war took place. This was just the start of what Kenti had planned.
Chapter Four
No Misky ...you can't use my dolls as targets.
Sirrah scolded her brother for using one of her dolls to throw rocks at.
Don't you think you're a little old now for such things?
He asked her back as he pulled his arm back to heave another rock.
Now stop!
She demanded. What about you? You're always bringing them home to me. You even like to give them names.
She chuckled. And...
She threw in. I'm only twelve, so having dolls is...
She perched her lips. What girls do.
She flatly told him.
Maybe...but using your dolls as targets is what boys do!
He countered with a grin.
Misky...I swear...you throw one more rock at her and I will.
She narrowed her eyes at him as he was about to throw another stone at her doll. He paused for just a moment...calling her bluff, but as the stone flew from his hand, she had tackled him to the ground and was holding him in a head lock. She moved so fast, Miskka had no time to react. She was getting faster and stronger and a little meaner.
Sirrah!
He choked. Okay...okay!
He gave in.
Then you better bring her back inside where you found her...or I'll.
Okay...okay!
He surrendered. So she let him up. Then stood with her hands on her hips as she watched him waddle over and retrieve the doll, then head to the house. He only did it because he loved his sister and would do most anything for her. When he returned she apologized to him and gave him a hug.
No...it was me.
Miskka said. I should know better than to tease you.
So what are we gonna do today?
Sirrah asked. But before Miskka could say a word, a voice rang out above their heads. They both looked up at Marima. You're gonna go to the kitchen and help your grandmother. That's what you're gonna do.
Marima told them with a sweet smile.
But mom!
Miskka whined.
Go!
Was all Marima said as she pointed her finger toward the kitchen. Standing at the door, wiping her hands on a towel as the two pups moped off toward the community hut. Miskka was about to say something under his breath when Sirrah nudged him. Shh!
She shushed. She'll hear you.
She always hears. How does she do that?
Miskka asked.
Don't know. Look at grandma...she touches you and she can tell what you've been up to. Good or bad!
Sirrah grinned, knowing that their grandmother would know that Miskka had been teasing her. Miskka could only sigh. He knew that with that came a lecture. And may be extra work. The two pups got to the community hut and disappeared inside. Aucky met them in the kitchen. Come you two. I've got something for you.
She waved for them to follow her. Once inside the kitchen, the smells of food and sweet baked goods over whelmed their tasty senses. Their eyes went wide with all the things they saw. Wanting to sit right there and then at any one of the tables and begin a sweet treat feast. But with one look from Aucky they knew they were not allowed to.
I have a list.
Aucky began. And you two are gonna be my deliverers.
She smiled.
Deliver!
Miskka queried.
"Yes...and once your done...there will be something special
