Prologue
Twisting, turning streaks of lightning lace a blackened sky. The storm was quite relentless as sheets of icened rain pelted anything that existed. A snaking staggered road led up to it's carry. Ending before the doors that sealed from within. Keeping all from getting out. Fifty persons made the trek, sealing themselves in for the run of five years. Whereas another group laden with ideas came to realize the first or former.
Starnetics it was called. Government owned and operated. having some of the worlds best and most intelligent scientists ever born to this planet. Funded by the government and researched by N.A.S.A, running hand in hand and using every available means possible.
Science is constantly unraveling new and exciting secrets about life, the earth and the universe with all that thrives on or in it. Secrets of the precise settings of the four fundamental physical forces. Electromagnetism, gravity, strong and weak nuclear forces. Which affects every object in the known universe. They are set and balanced so precisely that even slight changes could render the universe and all it's contents lifeless. So this explanation simply has to be something more than mere coincidence. The sheer complexity of the world around us. It's building blocks. What adversity. How rhetoric. Because the more we learn about the complexity and order of the universe, the more reason we should have to be in awe of the One who designed it.
Where just centuries earlier, scientists believed that the entire universe was contained within our little known galaxy. Later revealing the breathtaking scale of the cosmos. Coming to understand that they don't know what makes up over ninety percent of the universe. Thus triggering a revolution in astronomy, cosmology and finally biology with an obvious mix of any of the two.
First science chose to slice and dice DNA. Trying to figure out what it was. Now they are splicing it into other foreign DNA to try and see what will become of it.
Has mankind gone too far? Trying to play god, he has no knowledge of. But it also goes to show that if you don't play with fire, how in the hell are you gonna learn how not to get burnt? Or what to do with it. Optimism about man's future and human kind's nature also suffers a mortal blow, as these so-called civilized people, armed with powerful mass produced, newly invented weapons of knowledge, given over by forces of a nature far beyond our own. Further beyond out little star, giving man the free will to play god on an unprecedented scale.
Knowing this world will never be the same again. Answers have been provided to some questions, while other questions, have been raised. Questions that will always cast doubt on our present understanding of man's nature, thust Starnetics was given birth. Giving mankind power to look deeper into these questions and play with this universal proverbial fire.
Research of the highest classification known to man. Was now under way. In the heartland foothills of Northern Iowa. Amish inhabited country. Owning all of ten thousand acres and sitting right smack dab in the middle of some of the finest pines, cedars, oaks and elms, that existed. This is where Starnetics had built it's lab. The massive building was made with darkened stone, concrete and mortar. Helping to hide it's existence. Walls that stretched up three stories, with only eight small vertical windows that paired on each side of the third floor. Only one entrance that could not be opened from the outside world. Someone from within needed to break the seal that would eventually let the cat out it's bag.
The year was 2002 and this shift was under it's second year. Supplies were shipped in with each new team that had piggybacked the last. Breakthroughs were under way and new discoveries had been made. And with the probes that came and left the earth's atmosphere, compliments of N.A.S.A, new material was brought into Starnetics.
Things from out there. Beyond the stars, those visible and invisible to the human eye. Things that should have never been taken from out there. Things that never should have been brought back.
The observable features of the natural world. This world. Biochemistry has made it a goal to show that it can be adequately explained only by recourse to intelligent causes. Even in Darwin's time it was proved disappointing that in respect, the missing links are just that- missing. But drawing from the fantasy that there is some sort of pre-existing intelligence before life first appeared on earth showed them no merit. Even fossil records that showed closely related matches to the general order of that of the bible book of Genesis. Those that did not change from one kind to another. Those that were never spliced or meant to be. Animals and plants continue to reproduce after their own kind. Yet man would not take heed, refusing to learn. But to play god with that. It's too strongly believed that the in-between forms will never exist.
The foregoing represents just the tip of an iceberg of far reached unaswered questions that will always puzzel those who dismiss the evidence of a creator. And yet man continues to push the envelope that may one day be his undoing. Today was not that day. As far reaches of this little known world and it's universe are brought together like spliced genes.
Chapter 1
Winding, whipping winds in chorus. And still the storm showed no remorse. Beating it's thrashing hand
