Introduction
Let’s start out with what this book is not. Most of the books on panic and Panic Disorder that you will find include every possible aspect about panic attacks, the history and treatment interventions, the anatomy of an attack, where panic comes from, everything that you could possibly want to know about a panic attack. I have read many of them and have often wondered How does all this help me to stop what’s happening to me?
Well, I can tell you how these books help you. Any education, learning, or understanding that you gain on this disorder will help to de-sensitize you to the fear that panic attacks bring with them.
However, this book is not a technical book, it is practical in its approach. It tells you what you can do. It tells you how to win the battle. This book is written from the point of view of another victim, like you, who has become symptom-free. The language is simple, as if I were sitting somewhere with you over coffee, and telling you about my experience of being a victim, and my experience of recovery. The difference here is that I am also a therapist, who for 25 years has worked with panic victims, listened to their plight, and developed strategies that helped me and helped them to take control of their lives again.
If you have been diagnosed with Panic Disorder or been told you have panic attacks, it is likely you have visited your local emergency room with symptoms that made you feel like you might be having a heart attack or going crazy.
Trust me, I have been there...done that. But please, before you start to implement the suggestions in this book, see your doctor and make sure that there is not a physical problem causing the symptoms. That alone, knowing that you are ok physically, can go a long way to getting your symptoms under
