MAGIC CARPET RIDE

CHAPTER 1.

Mario was waiting outside Emila's modest house in an ancient Middle Eastern city in the middle of a desert. He was a wealthy, lazy fat man in loose white robes who had just traded for her. He saw her in the marketplace while shopping for fruit; as it was an Islamic country, women were not allowed in public without burkas, so he only saw her eyes. It did not take him long to find her family and make an offer. He bought Emila along with a bag of apples for twenty sheep.

She hugged and kissed her family goodbye before joining Mario outside and getting into the palanquin with him. They sat on cushioned seats, hidden from the eyes of people on the road by embroidered silk curtains.
