Yes, the decision had been the right one, although she hadn't slept most of the night before. Even her feet in a bowl of cool water hadn't helped this time. But Sophia Weldon's spirits lifted the moment she removed the fur. Accepting the claim check, she stepped through the carved double doors. Her gown whispered of possibilities among the shadows cast by the lights and the shimmering decorations.

The board meeting she'd passed up to attend this fundraiser had been important, but the festive atmosphere was more what she needed right now.
