    Yes, the decision had been the right one, although she hadn't slept most of the night before. Even her feet in a bowl of cool water hadn't helped this time. But Sophia Weldon's spirits lifted the moment she removed the fur. Accepting the claim check, she stepped through the carved double doors. Her gown whispered of possibilities among the shadows cast by the lights and the shimmering decorations.

    The board meeting she'd passed up to attend this fundraiser had been important, but the festive atmosphere was more what she needed right now. Her 50th birthday was looming, something was coming, and she was as ready as she could ever be. She wanted to be where it could find her, or at least make it easy.

    People around her nodded in greeting through the dance music. The room felt warm and she swore to herself when she began to sweat, glad she'd begun to have her dresses made up to compensate for this new development. She made her way through the crowd, speaking with colleagues, the up and coming, and a few of the down and going outs. Helping, because that's what she did.
