About this ebook
Davis Bessinton's life changed the day lightning struck him. His company, already teetering on the edge, fails when he loses the expertise he used to have, and his wife leaves him, unable to cope with his new compulsion to create art. When Davis finds an intruder rifling through his art, the man cuts a hole in thin air and steps through it. Who he is and where he goes will change Davis' life.

Buffalo on a Vinegar Morning
The sky was clear blue, but once Davis got to the park, he could see a few clouds to the south. He set off for the trail, grateful when the path dipped into the trees where the smell of running water and rotting vegetation vied with the grass and spring wildflower blossoms, overcoming the city's smells.
When he'd run the trail three times, he headed out to the park proper. The large green square was dotted with people. Davis looked up to the sky, saw some rain in the distance, heard muted thunder, and smelled something, ozone, he realized.
A flash of light flew toward him, incredibly fast, and hit him in the face. He was knocked backwards but, inexplicably, felt clearly himself flying forward. Looking behind him, he saw himself lying on the ground. He knew it was himself because he recognized the bright lime green Nike running suit and the silver streaked Adidas 401s, even if he didn't recognize his face, strangely slack and burnt around the cheeks and chin.
Oh, my God,
he thought, I'm dead.
People were gathering around his body. A woman in holey jeans and an embroidered top knelt and professionally checked his vitals and began CPR.
He moved upward, vividly remembering his grandmother feeding him milk and sugar coffee from a spoon, being caught stealing change from his mother's bean pot, his dad teaching him to cast a rod, breaking into a house with a bunch of buddies
