Mother Superior toyed nervously with the large, gold crucifix around her neck. The visit she had been dreading for weeks was finally at hand. She removed her thin gold rimmed round spectacles and cleaned them for what might have been the hundredth time in as many minutes. Hearing a loud knock on the door of her study, she took a deep breath then called out in her most authoritative voice.

Enter.

Bishop Colbert and Father Simon, Mother Superior, the plump, young nun announced.

Your Grace, the elderly nun smiled, rising from her burgundy leather upholstered armchair. This is indeed a most unexpected pleasure.

The corpulent bishop casually extended his right arm. The Mother Superior knelt to kiss the ruby encrusted ring on his middle finger. Only when she was standing upright again did she acknowledge his companion.
