Jonathan Blue

Jonathan Blue (1984-?) has been a writer since he was in elementary, but a dreamer since forever. In a joke he once referred to himself as the “Righter” as if he was here to right some of the wrongs in the world through writing. He believes that that is actually his mission, but his objective ultimately is to create entertaining pieces for people to enjoy and love. He is a poet, fiction writer, and explorer. He was born in Anaheim, California and has lived in California his whole life. He is the middle brother of four awesome sisters, and the son of two amazing parents.

Boy Hearts Girl - Jonathan Blue

    How these two have soared

into the skies, on a cloud,

    for both to rest on.

    Prologue

This book materialized into pieces way back in 2005. I had a whole bunch of poems and ideas, but I just couldn’t see what direction I was going in. I wanted to write a book of poetry, but no idea how or what to do it on. I need a thorough way to pull it together and make it something worthwhile for people to read. So yeah, I had a mighty fine puzzle set out in front of me, but I wanted to do more than put together just a poetry book. It had to be something that cut to the heart of people. That’s when it hit me, it hit me personally, because I finally fell in love. That’s what changed everything. That’s what gave me the inspiration to continue with it, but at some point along the way I got too busy with life and just decided that it would be too hard to go out and try getting it published. Plus I had so many other works and ideas in just the same disorganized manner. So on top of trying to focus on school, balancing my work as an EMT behind the steering wheel of a bright green and white ambulance, unsure of what direction I was headed in, I just lost track of my dream of becoming an author. Well a published author. I still dreamt about it often enough.

A lot of people don’t think that poetry is sexy, but yes it is. There are a lot of us out there still trying to cut it in the poetry world. Poetry is about more than just love and relationships. It’s more than just emotions and understanding the human condition. It’s a whole host of things. However this book is themed around love poetry. Rather I think of it as relationship poetry. Not all relationships really involve love, certainly they may say I love you or this or that and stick it out together, but you got to admit to yourself if there’s no trust, no respect, there’s no love there. Just leave it alone. Reminds me of the line from the song Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol:

Those three words, are said too much and not at all.

So after getting distracted by Love and all her works, I experienced my first heartbreak. It was an angry heartbreak. They say that cheaters never prosper, but from what I know she’s still prospering and she’s still with him, at least to my very low knowledge. That was ultimately the inspiration that led me to begin to write this book, realizing that there are stages to love and so basically the book is separated into 6 chapters, which I call The 6 Stages of Love and Dying, which happen to be the different stages we go through in relationships. Not everyone has the opportunity (if that’s the right word) to go through all the different stages, some are lucky of course never having to experience heartbreak, but God help those who do. However it’s not the end, there’s always hope if you believe in it. Nonetheless some people could argue that much like life, being in love is just like killing yourself slowly. I tip my hat to all you cynics out there.

Also, in this book there is a bunch of different poetry forms. Sadly one of the most important is something that I thought I had the ingenuity to make up. I wanted to call it a Sonnet Ring, but I found out it is already referred to as a Sonnet Circle. When you read through hopefully everyone will be able to understand what exactly a Sonnet Circle is, or you can just google it, or whatever, but as always you’re still free to call it whatever you like, just like me. Come on Sonnet Circle? That is not sexy.

Although I did not create something new with the Sonnet, I did create what I call the Juanazul (pronounced like Spanish Juan Azul, that’s me Jon Blue). It’s a new form that I came up with and spent much time on. Here’s a Juanazul poem I wrote to explain the form:

    The Juanazul

    Every

    line goes together

    somehow adding to seven

    in a tether

    and all spun

    line 1

    and line 2 add up

    seven syllable haven

    they should become

    if done right

    wound tight

    the fourth line is four

    whereas the last line given

    much like before

    should be three

    you’re free

    to do as you grant

rhymes don’t have to be heaven

    but can be slant

    if you like

    Don’t try

    to change the rhyme scheme

    nor muddle up the rhythm

    tearing the seam

    of this form

    be warned

    also that the sixth

    stanza should be like leaven

    rising climax

    should be here

    and dear

    reader understand

    the conclusion is seven

    up to the end,

    now you see.

    The form
