Chicago Veterinary Surgeon Jim Briggs is at the center of the murder investigation of New York Times best-selling author Mattie Powell, who moved to a homeless camp after her husband gambled away her book royalties, their savings, and home to pay off his debts. While Briggs is helping detectives solve the case, an informant calls the police hotline and says Briggs is an angel of mercy, illegally killing the unsheltered on demand, including Powell. Now, Briggs must race to find Powell's killer before he is jailed for life as a serial killer.
