About this audiobook

Dr. Judy Mikovits is a modern-day Rosalind Franklin, a brilliant researcher shaking up the old boys’ club of science with her groundbreaking discoveries. And like many women who have trespassed into the world of men, she uncovered decades-old secrets that many would prefer to stay buried.

From her doctoral thesis, which changed the treatment of HIV-AIDS, saving the lives of millions, including basketball great Magic Johnson, to her spectacular discovery of a new family of human retroviruses, and her latest research which points to a new golden age of health, Dr. Mikovits has always been on the leading edge of science.

With the brilliant wit one might expect if Erin Brockovich had a doctorate in molecular biology, Dr. Mikovits has seen the best and worst of science. When she was part of the research community that turned HIV-AIDS from a fatal disease into a manageable one, she saw science at its best. But when her investigations questioned whether the use of animal tissue in medical research were unleashing devastating plagues of chronic diseases, such as autism and chronic fatigue syndrome, she saw science at its worst. If her suspicions are correct, we are looking at a complete realignment of scientific practices, including how we study and treat human disease.

Recounting her nearly four decades in science, including her collaboration of more than thirty-five years with Dr. Frank Ruscetti, one of the founders of the field of human retrovirology, this is a behind the scenes look at the issues and egos which will determine the future health of humanity.

This peek into the the manner in which Big Pharma has a stranglehold on science is quite revealing! The reader of course has a choice of who to believe. If you're a non-scientist. I don't expect you to have same view of the book as a scientist. Mikovits obviously knew that many scientists reading this book would have questions, hence her deliberate inclusion of detail at critical moments. Finally, kudos to Hemingway for her beautiful rendition that brought even more life to the story. All in all, this book is a must-read for any truly practicing scientist.

To understand the value of this book to the lives of those dear to you, start with Chapter 11 (the reader says it’s “Chapter 9: What I really think of HIV and Ebola”). Then you can decide whether to continue, go to the book’s beginning, or decide it’s not your cup of tea.

But these are my reflections after finishing this audiobook, which I’d like to listen to again. (I was more comfortable adjusting the reading speed to 1.2x.)

Today, one is appalled at how objective scientific debates have been replaced by ad hominem (against the person) attacks, labelling and censorship.

In high school we were taught in argumentation and debate classes that these are the most illogical and desperate moves, when one’s back is against the wall in an intellectual discussion, and has no logical reason left to support his position.

So what do people do when they run out of reasonable arguments? They shout: SHUT UP!

At first, I was skeptical when listening to the earlier parts of the book, which seemed to be too much of a “conspiracy theory”. This label the our world equates with tall tales, designed to grab attention through sensationalism, a familiar marketing tool to increase readership and sales.

But patiently listening to this book makes one eventually realize that what it says is indeed shocking, but it is fully supported with scientific data, and real evidence.

Science is no place for bullies; but bullies now dominate science, and the ignorant are cowed to surrender the lives of their loved ones. Sadly, they may not know they are sacrificing their own beloved children to Moloch (you can Google who he is, and understand what I mean).

Her bravery… wow! This could easily be made into a major motion picture..

But drug companies would fight against that with all their hundreds of lawyers. Sad.
