About this audiobook

Perhaps in your past you’ve heard a fair bit about John Calvin (1509–1564) and his teaching on the sovereignty of God and predestination, but you’ve never quite understood his supporters or his detractors. You know that both Calvin’s theology and these doctrines are important, but you are not entirely sure how to get your mind and arms around them. In this little book, Joel Beeke shows us why Calvin’s teaching on God’s sovereignty and predestination is crucial indeed. This is an extended version of an address Dr. Beeke originally gave at the Skogheim Conference in South Africa on June 28, 2009.

It's accurate in representing Calvin's views, except for the limited atonement part; Calvin used to believe in a universal atonement. Yes, Calvin was a 4 point calvinist, but yet still a determinist. And I'm sorry that this small book is just the same calvinistic cliché that you can find in any of the social networks. To be honest, this book is full of contradictory statements, such as God decreeing sin, but yet not being the author of it; that's a blatant contradiction. But well, it's good to remember time to time why I'm not a calvinist, neither a theistic determinist; or compatibilist, which is the same but in its soft version.

Great book. A short one, but it hits on the critical points of Calvinism and explains them thoroughly in a succinct manner. Excellent!
