About this audiobook
Walk through Doors to the Past via a new series of historical stories of romance and adventure.
Clara Blackwell helps her mother manage a struggling one-hundred-year old family bookshop in Asheville, North Carolina, but the discovery of a forgotten letter opens a mystery of a long-lost romance and undiscovered inheritance which could save its future. Forced to step outside of her predictable world, Clara embarks on an adventure with only the name Oliver as a hint of the man’s identity in her great-great-grandmother’s letter. From the nearby grand estate of the Vanderbilts, to a hamlet in Derbyshire, England, Clara seeks to uncover truth about family and love that may lead to her own unexpected romance.

I knew within the first few chapters that this book would be 5 stars. I could feel it. I knew it. This book will always be a favourite. I MUST purchase my own copy.
This story captured so many things about why I’ve loved books and reading from an early age.
>> SOME CONTENT: Secret passageways, a little mystery, fascinating history, a love for books/reading/libraries, strong characters of integrity, sincere emotion, a little sarcasm/humour, deep familial and romantic love, travel, good triumphing over bad, and an acknowledgement of the One who gives us everything. He knows us by name, He never forgets us, and He can work through people and circumstances even when we cannot see it. Even when we think too much time has passed.
It’s hard to find the words to adequately relay how this book touched me so deeply. I didn’t want it to end yet I wanted to know what happened. Both the older timeline and the modern-day timeline were riveting and flowed together like chocolate and caramel. It’s so good that you can’t choose which one is better because one compliments the other. Maybe that’s an odd way to put it, but with how much I love chocolate and caramel together, it is an extremely high compliment. ;-)
I feel both sad and joyous that this book came to an end. Pepper Basham knocked this out of the park so far that the ball will never be found. This book will stay with me always and I’ll be recommending it so much that people will read it just so I will be quiet. In light of the absolute madness taking place in the world currently, this book was like a salve for healing and a reminder of God’s pure love, light, and truth. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book was beyond amazing. It takes a lot to make me sad tears but I did over three or four times during this book so make sure you have clean exes. There is always hope between the pages of a book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This will be one of those reviews where I'll first start with "don't shoot the messenger," but also, "please read to the end." :)
I have not particularly enjoyed Pepper Basham's writing up to this point. Yes, it's good, but I have not been "sucked in" to a story. The first one I read I DNFed (and that was after going back a second time to see if I could make it through - I really tried, y'all!), and the second book was just ok. I couldn't figure out what I was missing. Why do all my reviewer friends love her books and I don't?!
Well, I guess I just needed to wait until I read Hope Between the Pages. Lord, have mercy... what a breathtaking story! I savored every second of it, rooting for both couples in each era. And the fact that there was a tie-in to the Biltmore estate, that was the cherry on top of a very delicious sundae! I visited Biltmore over 20 years ago, and so many rooms are still fresh in my mind's eye and helped my enjoyment of this story all the more.
Not only was this a dual timeline story, but there was a bit of a mystery woven through, too. It was all just a feast for anyone that's a lover of books, romance, and even a glorious mansion such as Biltmore. You might even shed a tear or two...I almost did.
I promise that now I won't be so quick to judge anything else from this author now that I have found such a story as moving as this one was. ♥
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and was not required to write a positive review (but I couldn't help it.) ;)
