About this audiobook

Daniel Mulligan is tough, snarky, and tattooed, hiding his self-consciousness behind sarcasm. Daniel has never fit in—not at home in Philadelphia with his auto mechanic father and brothers, and not at school where his Ivy League classmates looked down on him. Now, Daniel’s relieved to have a job at a small college in Holiday, Northern Michigan, but he’s a city boy through and through, and it’s clear that this small town is one more place he won’t fit in.

Rex Vale clings to routine to keep loneliness at bay: honing his muscular body, perfecting his recipes, and making custom furniture. Rex has lived in Holiday for years, but his shyness and imposing size have kept him from connecting with people.

When the two men meet, their chemistry is explosive, but Rex fears Daniel will be another in a long line of people to leave him, and Daniel has learned that letting anyone in can be a fatal weakness. Just as they begin to break down the walls keeping them apart, Daniel is called home to Philadelphia, where he discovers a secret that changes the way he understands everything.

Truly more of 3.5, this is oddly compelling story. But. There’s a lot loose ends, with over 400 pages or 13 hours listening time, I want more resolution and less melancholy in the end. Although an epilogue is claimed- no. This is solely Daniel’s POV, an on the cusp self awakening- which is my frustration. Rex & Daniel find each other by absolute fate or bizarre circumstances. Both are emotionally wounded, Dan more so yet strangely obviously to that fact. They balance each other organically, its compassionate, sincere, and passionate. Both men are beautifully complicated but open. Bunches of contradictions and missed opportunities, just left hanging on the edge of hope and promise.

One of the best I have heard. The story and characters are so much better than usual for this genre. Dialogue is excellent. The narrator is just flat wonderful, and perfectly suited to the story. I probably sound over the top here, but this book was a wonderful surprise ?

The pacing of this book is all over the place, why the hell a 13 hour book left loose ends at end? I kinda enjoyed my time with it but why the hell start all these storylines at the very end of the book just to left unresolved? Its not enough content for a sequel so I hope to god this isnt what is happening. The author needs to learn how to edit their work, there was absolut no need for this book to be as long as it is

Loved how Daniel's insecurities are enveloped in Rex's strength and vise versa with Daniel. They are perfect for each other through it takes them time to understand that

I don't wanna lie this was one of the best MM stories I have ever read. Roan Parrish writes very well and actually cares about the quality of the work she produces. As for the story itself we see Daniel's journey since his first arrival in holiday and his first encounter with Rex. Daniel had never felt like he could rely on anyone to have his back ot to love him unconditionally (apart from Ginger of course) so when he meets Rex it takes quite an adjustment for him to believe what they had was real and was permanent. Rex hadn't had an easy life either but at least his mother imperfect as she was, loved him unconditionally so that made him ready and capable to give and receive love when it came his way. I was hoping there would be certainty regarding the trajectory of Daniel's career but I guess where things end of is in a way perfect because it highlights that no matter how uncertain other areas of life may be what is certain is Rex and Daniel will be together. I admired the friendship and mutual devotion between Daniel's and Ginger, they were there for each other in ways they both needed at the time they met but as time went on their friendship transcended need and just became a unique and special lifetime bond. They both make it clear to their partners that they are permanent fixtures in each other’s life and their respective partners need to make an effort to get along with the best friend??‍♀️?.
Colin is one very complicated character I am going to definitely read his story.
In conclusion I rate this 5 Stars? and recommend it. It was hot ?, it was romantic and it was thought provoking and profound too.

I have 6 hrs left but, the narrator, the reader, Mr, Sir! Has me on chokehold, I want someone to read to me in that voice on a lazy day. Swoon-worthy narration.5 stars Awesome story telling, believable characters. Loved it

Will definitely listen to this again, and can't wait to read Colin's story, or to see how Leo and Will get their happy ending.

I loved the characters, loved the subversion of stereotypes, rolled my eyes at how Daniel didn't figure out Rex's "embarrassing" secret, and hated how no one else figured it out either, especially teachers - surely they should have been trained to spot the problem and help him work through it?!

Also, adult ADD is a thing. Right, Daniel? Daniel! Hello? ?

I loved this story. It was so sweet and real. Daniel and Rex forever! One of my favorites
Also this narrator killed it. He was Daniel. It was a bit unpolished with some of the recording but the acting/reading was one of the best I’ve heard!
