About this audiobook

Marry me for one year. Payment: $1.2 million.

Hayden Somerset is convinced the ad is a joke, but he responds anyway because, hello, $1.2 million. He’s broke, living in a tiny apartment with two roommates, and exhausted from praying his ancient car survives just one more week. His skyrocketing rent and crushing student loans aren’t helping either. At this point, there isn’t much Hayden wouldn’t do for that kind of cash.

The ad isn’t a joke. Jesse Ambrose is absolutely serious. His father, the charismatic patriarch of a powerful Hollywood dynasty, has his eye on politics, and he’s counting on California’s liberals and progressives to elect him. But Jesse knows what his father believes when cameras and voters aren’t around.

As the election looms, he’ll do anything to force the man’s hand and show the public who Isaac Ambrose really is. Anything, including marrying a stranger, so his father will make good on his promise to disown Jesse if he ever takes a husband.

Now he just has to wait for his father to take the bait… and try not to accidentally fall in love with his fake husband.

Might try it again one day.
    But can't do it today.
I don't know, I was thinking fun, naughty and whatever else but it's kinda boring.

While the story was cute and has a happy ending, I adored the narrators in the audio version. I especially loved Hayden's character narrator. He's so snarky and emotional, witty, catty and smarmy. The story can be triggering for abuse, manipulation, homophobia, for those that need warnings for on and off page triggers of that nature. It should also be said there are no glaringly graphic images or scenes in this book that I would stamp a TW on. Mostly just deeply implied unfortunate themes. That said, this book was entertaining and charming. The two MCs are likeable and their written chemistry is enjoyable. The plot was clever and unusual enough to keep me listening. I loved the dichotomy between classes and the coming together of two hearts stripped bare due to circumstance.

4 and a half stars. Story was just a tad too long, dragged on a bit, but nice resolution. Good build up of relationship between MCs from business to friendship and realizing they truly cared for each other. Wonderful narration by Greg Boudreaux and Michael Ferraiuolo.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. What a progressive spin on a fake marriage storyline. I’m a snob about narrators voices. Idc how good a book is if I can’t stand the voices, I won’t get through the audio. I loved the narrators here and they really brought these characters to life for me.

Such a good story. I didn’t know I was into this trope but apparently I need to read more. The characters made sense together and I didn’t want it to end. The sex was hot and emotions between them worked well. Loved it.

Serendipity, fate, karma… call it what you will.
Jesse knows at the end of the day, he’ll lose a lot. Yet he’s willing to risk it, to stop his father from being in place to push his narrow minded agenda onto unsuspecting people.
Hayden’s family put everything into his brother’s skating career and that didn’t leave much left for Hayden. Hayden and his friends are struggling to make ends meet, when Hayden stumbles across an opportunity than seems to good to be true.
Jesse & Hayden have an easy camaraderie, yet they view things from completely different perspectives.

This was just what I needed. Great story with lovely characters. It was heart-breaking and heart-warming at the same time, and I liked that it wasn't filled to the brim with misunderstandings that just go on and on, which you often come across in the "fake relationship" stories. On top of that I think the narrators did a great job! They fit the characters and story well, and even the emotional scenes felt real to me.
    Would recommend :)

I laughed so many times! And intimately identified with Hayden's situation. All his worries hit so close to home. I enjoyed this book a lot and if anything, I wished we got to know the side characters more but it was still a really good read/listen. Can't wait to read more from L.A. Witt!
