Spineless

Eight years ago, I believed I’d finally found a place to call home. My mother’s marriage to Vincent Sharpe meant security and three stepbrothers who were already my best friends.

But Mom’s mysterious death one week before the wedding turned my world upside down. The day of her funeral, I was whisked away to live with my aunt in Kansas, and I never heard from the Sharpes again...

Until a devastating tornado leaves me destitute.

Now, Vincent is offering me the opportunity of a lifetime—he’ll pay for my tuition and expenses at an exclusive university. All I have to do is move back in with him and his sons.

Knowing this is my one chance to discover what really happened to my mother, I grudgingly accept. But if I thought living in the same house with a potential murderer was going to be my biggest obstacle, I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Leo, Hayle, and Tristin Sharpe are no longer the boys I remember. They're all grown up, with the adult attitudes, tensions, and sex appeal to prove it. They aren’t my problem anymore. Yet, somehow, they keep drawing me into their web of drama.

I might be the only person who can fix what’s broken between them. But I don't trust that they won't shatter me in the process.

*The Lonely Souls trilogy is a contemporary reverse harem series inspired by the main characters in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz...except, this version of Dorothy and her friends is a little twisted.

What our readers think

Readers find this title to be a modern take on The Wizard of Oz, but the narration is dreadful and the characters feel flat. The narrator's voice is the same for male and female characters, making it difficult to keep track of the story. Some reviewers also found the writing immature and the mention of explicit content inappropriate for a YA book. Overall, the story has potential but is let down by the narration and writing style.

    Needs a MALE NARRATOR!!!!
The female narrator should not being reading the MALES POV!!
Over all the story is good but the female narrator reading all POVS, it throws absolutely everything off. I was losing interest multiple times in book.

I think it all comes down to the narration. I couldn’t really keep track of who the person was because the narrator sounded the same for male and female. Because of this I don’t think I cared for the book which really isn’t fair because maybe the book is good. However the narrator was so Bland and didn’t really sell the book to me I couldn’t finish the first book and had no interest in reading the other two. So please read the book instead is my one and only suggestion.

A modern take on The Wizard of Oz, if written by your mother and narrated by your grandmother.

The actual story isn’t dreadful, but it’s full of anachronisms and every single detail about any sort of tech is over-explained by someone who seems to have never sent a text before. The characters feel rather flat, and there’s way too much “I can’t believe I have a female friend! I thought all girls were gossiping b*tches!”. It could have been passable, but the truly dreadful narration killed it.

More like a YA romance. Not really any romance. Seems like it's written for teens besides it mentions actions of s*x. Besides that it's written very imaturely. Almost DNF. Spice is 0.5 out of 10 story line is a 1.5 out of 10
