About this audiobook

WHO DO YOU TRUST WHEN SIMPLY EVERYONE IS WEARING A MASK?

A Winter Wedding, Venice, 1923

Posie Parker, London’s premier female Private Detective, is getting married…

But on arrival in Venice, Posie finds she is walking into a nightmare: her lodgings on the Grand Canal are consumed by fire, her famous fiancé is preoccupied, and most bizarrely of all, her hostess, the Countess Romagnoli, confesses she has a stalker and fears for her life.

Tasked with protecting the Countess, Posie investigates the other house-guests and finds that there are disguises everywhere.

And when a terrible murder is committed, with the prospect of the killer striking yet again, Posie realizes she must separate out the shadows of the past and the realities of the present in order to uncover the murderer before it is too late. In her most dangerous case yet, Posie works alongside both familiar and new colleagues in order to get at the truth.

But will the truth come at a terrible price?

Yet again a twisting plot, with amazing revelations right to the end. The agonies of love and loss punctuate the story, reminding us that life is both precious, and ephemeral. The ways in which justice is sought, and then rendered, in an equitable, empyrean, manner, makes life an evenhanded existence, in its own way. The characters show us truths, by their actions, for good or not. We live with them as they struggle with the necessary accommodations life demands. A good mystery and a better story.

I really enjoyed this book. Again L B Hathaway has captured the drama and suspense of the story wonderfully.

Well, one main character in this WWII adventure says that her brother is really “freaked out by” something or other, and another says in a sarcastic aside, “tell me about it.” Now, maybe I am wrong- I was not alive and conversant during this time period- but I do not think these were in the vernacular of the post-War Englishman.
In addition, I find that I just cannot warm to Posey. This was my third and probably final foray into the series.

Very enjoyable! The Venetian setting was a treat and added so much rich historical details to this story. So much better than the previous book in the series.

This book was quite frustrating and the ending was like an emotional, storyline whiplash. After numerous books taking us through the relationship of posy and her long time boyfriend then fiance, they go and kill him off at the end. And then immediately afterwards kill off the inspector’s wife…. This all happens in the last chapter or so of the book. Seems like a patchy weird way to set it up for Posy and the inspector to end up together. I mean, they didn’t have to kill them off if the author was wanting them to be together. Then, immediately after her fiance is murdered, she has a fling on the train ride home with a spy. If you want emotional whip, lash read this book. The ending left me confused and annoyed
