Gave up after about an hour. The writing is basic and I had no confidence it was going to get better with 43 hours (trilogy) to go. The concept was already a little shaky after the overly detailed introduction and the characters are such simple stereotypes I couldn't get interested in them.
But the thing that properly turned me off is the jumping between characters. I've continued to listen to bad audio books, they can still be back ground noise. But it jumps back and forth between parallel conversations constantly, to the point that you actually have to concentrate to keep track of which conversation you've been parachuted into. Not worth the investment of time.

Narrator is way to irritating & amateur to bear continuing, I lasted for a couple of hours

1 suspension of disbelief turn up all the way
2 keep repeating: nails on blackboard are fine. Narrator... ouch
    3 there is an end
Even knowing all that it was a struggle. I had to get to the end, I needed closure and even that was a let down. Gave 2 ⭐ because it kept me busy for a long time.
Spoiler alert: rookie aka dog aka rookie etc., the whole Eden test in the maze absolute BS. This is NOT a children's book and yet it sometimes feels like it.
