About this audiobook

The walls of Ninurta keep its citizens safe.

Kai always believed the only danger to the city came from within. Now, with a rebel force threatening the fragile government, the walls have become more of a prison than ever.

To make matters worse, as Avan explores his new identity as an Infinite, Kai struggles to remind him what it means to be human. And she fears her brother, Reev, is involved with the rebels. With the two people she cares about most on opposite sides of a brewing war, Kai will do whatever it takes to bring peace. But she’s lost her power to manipulate the threads of time, and she learns that a civil war might be the beginning of something far worse that will crumble not only Ninurta’s walls but also the entire city.

In this thrilling sequel to Gates of Thread and Stone, Kai must decide how much of her humanity she’s willing to lose to protect the only family she’s ever known.

A really fast read. It was more sci-fi than thriller too me. A man is living in a parallel universe and keeps seeing himself in his life. I think it could have been better if there was more of a twist at the end.

Set in Chicago, this sci-fi thriller introduces us to the MANY WORLDS, MANY MINDS theory from quantum mechanics in physics that suggests there could be an infinite number of parallel worlds in which we all exist. Although we are a different version of ourselves in each world, we are similar. When Dylan Moran's car sinks in the rushing waters of a river—swallowed up by torrential flooding—he loses his wife, Karly, and his sanity. Suddenly a stranger in a familiar world, Dylan, is pitted against his evil self. From there, the author takes the reader on a roller-coaster ride through the Many Worlds, each with its version of Dylan's life. The plot is expertly crafted, complicated, and very suspenseful. Just when I thought I had the plot figured out, the story would take another stunning twist. I was glued to this book right up until the surprising conclusion.

A 5 star start. But then it just becomes unbelievable. And, I’m dropping stars. What is this? A quantum science fiction thriller? Too many convenient coincidences, too many scientific holes, too little Einstein—too much that’s just hard to take seriously. But then, right near the end, there’s a clever shift and I see where he was heading all along. A satisfactory wrapping up that kinda makes sense. Sort of. 3 stars then.

Like it a lot, despite I believe is much slower and less engaging than the first one.
Let's see how the trilogy conclude!:)
    Thanks!

This book was better than the first but likely won't be a favorite or a re-read.
Ninurta is struggling to recover from the change of power. Kai now knows who she is but is fighting against it. She worries that Reev is plotting with the rebels against the new government
When a girl stubbles into the city stating that she is from another city from across the wasteland, Kai is sent to check out the situation. The city is besieged by Chimera and they are fearful they will die. Mason goes with her and their relationship grows. I liked the relationship Kai developed with Cassia.
You finally get a clearer sense of the setting and the why. I still wish that had been in the first book. ? But at least now it makes sense.
I didn't like where they took Avan's character and I think Kai would be better with Mason but... ?‍♀️
Kai is now ready to deal with this latest betrayal... I'm gonna go start it.

Kai's life has gotten very complicated since the first book. She is struggling to come to terms with who she is and what it means. The two men she loves her brother and Avan are both struggling as well for different reasons. This book picks up only a few months after the last book ends so everyone is still reeling from the events that took place in book 1.When Kai is given the opportunity to travel to a new kingdom out across the Outlands she jumps at the chance to put a little distance between herself and her problems. This new land is very different and beautiful but the people and the culture are strange and not always very welcoming. While there she discovers a new threat, a mystery of who these people were, how they have magic and what is going on in another city nearby that is driving their people insane. She also discovers much more about where she comes from and what she is capable of which is a good thing since there is definitely more going on in this new city than meets the eye. This book was a great sequel to Gates of Thread and Stone. Full of action and intrigue. I loved the relationship between Kai and her brother Reev, as Reev struggles against his baby sister who he raised, as she grows up and become a woman. Kai's transformation from defiant young girl to a powerful woman who begins to realize what she could be if she would let herself is well done and believable. I really liked this sequel and felt that was just as good as the first and left me wanting even more. Can't wait for the 3rd.
