About this audiobook
In a fast-paced, brilliantly twisted novel of suspense from #1 New York Times bestselling author Lisa Jackson, the deadly secrets of a long-ago summer stir to life once more.
It starts as a prank—a way to blow off steam after a long summer at Camp Horseshoe. Among the teen counselors, tensions and hormones are running high. No wonder the others agree when Jo-Beth Chancellor suggests they scare Monica O’Neal a little….or a lot. Monica has it coming, and no one will really get hurt. What could go wrong?
Everything.
Twenty years later, Lucas Dalton, a senior detective with the sheriff’s department, is investigating the discovery of human remains in a cavern at what used to be Camp Horseshoe. Lucas knows the spot well. His father, a preacher, ran the camp, and Lucas worked there that infamous summer when two girls went missing. One is believed to have been killed by a convict on the loose. Monica O’Neal is thought to have drowned and been washed out to sea.
Lucas knows he should step down from such a personal case. He’s already jeopardized his career by removing evidence of his involvement. But maybe it’s time to uncover the whole truth at last. That’s why five former female counselors are coming back to the small Oregon town—among them, Bernadette Warden, the woman Lucas has never forgotten. Each one knows something about that terrible night. Each promised not to tell. And as they reunite, a new horror unfolds. First come notes containing a personal memento and a simple, terrifying message: You will pay. Then, the murders begin.
It started years ago. But it will end here—as a web of lust, greed, and betrayal is untangled to reveal a killer waiting to enact the perfect revenge.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I found this book an unsatisfying read, mainly because there was no one to root for. I wasn't cheering for any of the characters. In fact most were annoying. The multiple characters resulted in many aspects of the story being repeated, and not in enough detail to make them intriguing. The killers, although mentioned in the beginning, remained hidden until the end when the book had to end. I t hint incorporating the killer all the way through would have built more suspense.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I just want to go on record as saying that I hate giving a bad review to a favorite author. Sounds from the description that it's another good one by this author...however I think Lisa Jackson must have been on vacation and this was written by a ghost writer. The first part of this book was like watching paint dry. No action to speak of...and no suspense. Each new character reviews the story from the viewpoint of the main character in the chapter. Same thing over an over. There were red herrings galore and off center plot lines that went absolutely nowhere. The premise was good but it just failed to carry through. Never had a Lisa Jackson book quiet like this one.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I'll be honest and say that the whole "summer camp" theme sold me on this one, Camp Crystal Lake will forever have me intrigued with this subject and while there was no Jason Voorhees in this story---there was plenty of drama.
I struggled a bit in the beginning as we went back and forth from present and past in different character perspectives. A got a little bored reading about the characters and thier current lives (much of what had nothing to do with the storyline-imo) but felt it picked up towards the end and tied up everything a bit too neatly.
The story was good---nothing earth shattering, just okay.

It's closed 20 years ago when two of the female counselors, Elle Brady and Monica O' Neal went missing on two separate days. One of the male counselors had also been stabbed in the back. Everyone believes an escape prison convict was responsible. But the convict has never been found, and there has been no evidence of the missing girls or the stabbing, until now. The partial remains of a body has been found by a local fishermen in a cave on the grounds of Camp Horseshoe. There were other seven female counselors at Camp Horseshoe when Elle and Monica disappeared: Bernadette and Annette Alsace, Jo-Beth Chancellor, Reva Mercado, Jayla Williams, Sosa Gaffney and Nell. These girls all have something different to hide. Now that the investigation is being renewed the camp counselors are gathering in Averille, Oregon to go over the story they are going to tell the detectives.Kinley Marsh was a camper at Camp Horseshoe when the camp was shut down. She had been in Monica's cabin. She had always been an bookish, bright inquisitive girl. Now twenty years later she is a blogger and thinks she has just the story that has the potential to launch her reporter career. She starts calling the counselors for interviews once she hears about the remains being found. The tall, blond ruggedly handsome Lucas Dalton is a detective assisting in the investigation. But Lucas was also at Camp Horseshoe when the girls disappeared. His father was the domineering, preacher Jeremiah Dalton who owned and ran Camp Horseshoe. And complicating matters even further is that Lucas and Elle had been dating until right before her disappearance. Could Lucas be involved? REVIEWLike most of Lisa Jackson novels, YOU WILL PAY is full of interesting and well developed characters, combined with a suspense-filled fast moving story. Her writing is clear and the book is an easy quick read. While the book contains a huge cast of characters, all the main characters are well developed and intriguing. The interplay between the characters keeps you guessing about who has the motive and the means to make either of these two girls disappear. And are they missing or dead? Who's body has been found? You are left guessing until the very end.Lisa Jackson is a New York Times best-selling author of over 40 novels. YOU WILL PAY can surely be added to that list! Thanks to Kensington Books, Lisa Jackson and Netgalley for an advanced reading copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5How, you may ask, does a Christian camp end up with a staff of mean girls and rebellious boys who do almost nothing except sneak out of their respective cabins every night to have sex with each other? The disappearance of two of the girls, one of the boys on staff, and an escaped convict . . . all during the same one summer . . . rings a death-knell for the camp, but the mystery lives on.Fast forward some twenty years. The missing are still missing, the now-adult rebellious boys still harbor grudges, and the grown-up mean girls are still mean. But the discovery of a skull at Camp Horseshoe leads to speculation that it belongs to one of the girls who went missing that long-ago summer. And now everyone [or almost everyone] who was at the camp that summer is returning . . . to make certain no revelations endanger the story they told the police who came to investigate. Their summer of rendezvousing and secret trysts must never become common knowledge. The telling of the tale alternates between characters as well as between the timelines of the past and the present, a structure that allow the details of the mystery to dribble out in small installments. The characters are believable, but not necessarily likeable, and readers will easily recognize the almost-cliché failings of the camp leaders. Plot twists and turns give readers many choices for suspects although few will identify the true villain before the final twisted reveal when the soap-opera-fueled plot offers up an unexpected surprise. Although readers are kept guessing as the suspense ramps up and the pages turn, some may find the characters’ swearing and occasional foul language off-putting.Recommended.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5What started as a semi-fun summer working at a church camp ended with 2 teenage female camp counselors, one older male worker & an escaped convict missing. No one knew what happened & the camp ended up closing down. Fast forward 20 years & bones have been discovered in the sandy beach at the camp. Did they belong to one of the 4 missing or someone else? One of the male counselors, the minister's son Lucas, is now a deputy on the police force. This case has always bothered him & even being thrown of the case won't stop him this time. Lisa Jackson is a master at writing mysteries. Her plot twists & turns with new evidence being discovered at different times. I wasn't able to figure out who did this until the end. The dialogue jumps back & forth between the two time periods & different characters viewpoints. At times it made it a little confusing but it also made me pay more attention to what I was reading. There was also a little redundancy in the facts & stories jumping from the different viewpoints but I think that was meant to show which facts they all remembered the same & which they didn't. The characters are realistic & relatable as was the plot. We've all attended church camp & known characters similar to this group. I can't wait to see what Lisa Jackson thinks up next.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I had a little trouble at the start of this book getting used to the writing style of the author. I'm not sure why that was, I have read Lisa Jackson in the past and don't remember a problem. However, that was soon remedied and it was off to the races. The book is told is two parts. The present and twenty years before when in the time frame of only a couple of days, 2 female camp counselors, a young stable guy who cares for the horses and an escaped killer all disappear. Due to this, Camp Horseshoe is shut down and never opened again. The nights in question are visited several times throughout the book with each character telling just a little bit of what they remember. Of course, it's just enough for the reader to come up with suspect after suspect while reading this phenomenal read. The ending is shocking and provides a method of using a knife that I have never heard of. And, I read a lot of thrillers and mysteries! A book worthy of your TBR pile that you should most definitely check out.Huge thanks to Kensington Books for approving my request and to Net Galley for providing me with a free e-galley in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.
