About this audiobook
A brilliant novel of one man's quest to protect the innocent, as he tries to face down a terrible guilt locked in his own past.
Terry Naughton is head of the Crimes Against Youth unit of the Orange County Sheriff's Department. He's seen plenty of heinous criminals in his years on the force, but nothing could have prepared him for the Horridus.
Abducting children from their beds, dressing them like little angels and releasing them the next day, the Horridus is a pedophile living an escalating fantasy, Naughton believes. A fantasy that will soon lead to sexual depravity and beyond.
When shocking and seemingly factual accusations put his career on the line, he must confront his dark past. Even if he can clear his name, can Naughton do the same for his conscience?

"Powerful ... What you have here is a darkly unique story that stays open in the mind long after the book has been closed and put up on the shelf."—Michael Connelly
"In his wonderful novel, T. Jefferson Parker has created a monstrous villain who makes Thomas Harris's Dolarhyde, Buffalo Bill and Hannibal Lecter seem like three of the Vienna choir boys. I challenge anyone to sit down with this novel and get up without having finished it. What a terrific read!"—Elizabeth George
"WHERE SERPENTS LIE is the most powerful book I've read this year. I have never used the 'R' word in describing any other novel, but let me use it now: WHERE SERPENTS LIE is riveting. T. Jefferson Parker has written a tough, brutal, moving work that I simply could not put down."—Robert Crais
"If T. Jefferson Parker isn't the best crime writer in America, I don't know who is."—John Lescroart
"A harrowing mix of angst and suspense."—The Washington Post Book World

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Not for the weak hearted. Harsh and real. Great narration and character development. I highly recommend.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Intriguing, suspenseful, a part of what happens in the world that is hard to believe.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A great story...though I felt like I needed to take a shower to wash the yuck of me after reading it. Not saying it was bad..the opposite. The villan of the story was portrayed to well, he made my skin crawl. That the characters were so real just made the story better. It is about very touchy subject matter, pedophilla, and some parts are in depth and overly disturbing, which they're meant to be. Most of us don't, or try not to, think about such subject, but Mr. Parker makes us take full notice of just how easy the "creep" could be your neighbor or the person on the corner.
The "hero" cop, Terry Naughton struggles with his own inner demons as well as chasing down the ones on the streets in the CAY (Crimes Against Youth) division. Dealing with jealous co-workers, home life and his past at the same time trying to hunt down the newest in a series of pedo's hunting down children.
I love the story, the characters, and the twists it takes. The characters jumped to life for me and the story didn't disappoint. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A page-turner for sure, but with a plausibility issue: a Master-Mind Obsessive Bad Guy a la Hannibal Lector. Too bad because the rest of the book including the other characters are definitely up to Parker standard. Still an excellent cheeseburger read.
