Inhaltsangabe:Gino Santangelo kann nach 7 Jahren aus dem Exil in Israel nach New York zurückkehren. Während New York durch den berühmten Stromausfall im Dunkeln liegt, erinnert er sich an sein Leben.Bereits mit 15 Jahren hatte Gino sich in New York gemacht. Er roch Bandenluft und baute sich seine eigene Organisation auf. Mit Alkoholschmuggel und Lotteriegeschäft machte er sein illegales Vermögen. Durch einflußreiche Kontakte konnte er das Geld reinwaschen! Es gab nur zwei Frauen, die ihm wirklich etwas bedeuteten. Leonora und Maria! Leonora heiratete einen anderen, während er auf eine Hochzeit mit ihr hoffte. Sie bekam eine Tochter, Maria. Viele Jahre später verliebte sich Gino in Maria und sie schenkte ihm eine glückliche Ehe und zwei Kinder, Lucky und Dario. Bevor sie in eine Anstalt kam, begegnete sie Gino das erste Mal. Beim zweiten Mal waren einige Jahre vergangen und sie hatte sich ein solides Leben aufgebaut. Sie verbrachte mit Gino eine leidenschaftliche Nacht, wurde jedoch kurz danach vergewaltigt. Als sie erfährt, das sie schwanger ist, weiß sie nicht, wer der Vater des Kindes ist. Und obwohl sie eigentlich nichts mehr mit Prostitution zu tun haben wollte, so mußte sie diesen Schritt erneut machen, um ihr krankes Kind ausreichend versorgen zu können. Einige Jahre später schaffte sie jedoch den Sprung in die obere Gesellschaft. Allerdings ahnte sie nicht, das die Vergangenheit sie eines Tages wieder einholen würde.Mein Fazit:Ein packender Roman um einige starke Menschen. Es ist manchmal verwirrend, aber diese vielen Persönlichkeiten haben am Ende zu einem ganzen geführt. Dieser Roman ist zwar mit vielen Klischees durchzogen (Mafia, Pate usw.), aber dennoch ist es unglaublich spannend und packend geschrieben.Es wird gemunkelt, das die Autorin einige wahre Persönlichkeiten und Begebenheiten damit zum Besten gab. Angeblich, so das Gerücht weiter, hätten einige führende Persönlichkeiten in Washington und Hollywood versucht, die Veröffentlichung dieses Buches zu verhindern!!!Ich freue mich schon auf den nächsten Teil: „Lucky Boss“!Anmerkung: Die Rezension stammt aus April 2003.Veröffentlicht am 29.12.16!

There was something lacking in this one. The story strayed away from the usual crime and glitzy casino scene into Hollywood offices, which was okay, but just felt very different. I've liked most about this series that these stories could only play out just so with the Santangelos, and this didn't jive in quite the same way. It didn't have to be Lucky. Still a good read, though. Three stars.
