About this audiobook

"Wilson narrates with emotional depth, conveying all of Rose's intelligence, inquisitiveness, and fear as she's hunted by otherworldly beings." - AudioFile

“A joyful, furious romp through dark places, Tingle proves he's as good at fear as he is at love.” ―T. Kingfisher, bestselling author of What Moves the Dead

From beloved internet icon Chuck Tingle, Camp Damascus is a searing and earnest horror debut about the demons the queer community face in America, the price of keeping secrets, and finding the courage to burn it all down.

Welcome to Neverton, Montana: home to a God-fearing community with a heart of gold.

Nestled high up in the mountains is Camp Damascus, the self-proclaimed “most effective” gay conversion camp in the country. Here, a life free from sin awaits. But the secret behind that success is anything but holy.

And they’ll scare you straight to hell.

A Macmillan Audio production from Tor Nightfire.

Editor's Note

Unparalleled mind…

From the unparalleled mind of Tingle, the pseudonymous author best known for self-publishing queer erotica like “My Billionaire Triceratops Craves Gay Ass,” comes a possession novel rooted in real-world evils. Rose, a member of a church known for its LGBTQ+ conversion camp, starts seeing gruesome visions. Soon, she unlocks the dark truth behind Camp Damascus’ 100% success rate. Tingle’s first traditionally published work abounds with horrors of all kinds (from demons to bigotry), but love wins in the end.

I know I'm in the minority with this book, and I do think that it's me and not the book. I liked the early beginning of it, that's it. It had way too much religious mumbo shmumo. I knew it was going to have a role in this book, but it was constant, and I was bored - also made me anxious, and not in a cool horror/thriller way, but that's a me thing - but still. I'm still finishing the audio book at three times the speed to finally get it over with because I DNFed for about two months;, and it's supposed to be the climax of the book, and I’M STILL BORED. But I'm grateful that action scenes have a lesser chance of preaching / reverse preaching, - still obnoxious. Not to keep whining... but I don't like the writing style very much either. I don't care about the main character... I don't really like the love interest at all... and almost like the guy man. I hope this isn’t too harsh though, just not my thing I guess. P.S. - I'm at the last second now. But the last couple minutes I zoned out reading Chuck Tingles other titles… that's crazy. Hope they're better than this one, no hate though ‘3’ 2/5

It was ok...it definitely had some moments, and the visual descriptions were very good. They had me until the end. With all the preparations, the main characters made to fight the evil... to bring the end to a close the way the author did was so ridiculous. The ending killed it for me. I think I'm aggravated.

Highly recommend the audiobook. It’s narrated by Mara Wilson!!! This is the perfect spooky and haunting read as fall begins. TW: conversion therapy, religious trauma, bugs, gore, violence, homophobia, cult-like behavior. Won’t spoil anything here so the trigger warnings will be included. But Forreal, 5/5. I read it in 2 days. If I wasn’t reading about it, I was thinking about it.

Very good horror novel with a little bit of a Hell Bound Heart feel.

Fresh concept but once it started to unfold It went as I thought it would. It was well written and I will be looking for more from this author.

Probably actually a 4.5? If all you know about Chuck Tingle is his Tinglers, this is a whole different thing. This is a smart, thoughtful, creepy story of a conversion camp with a disturbing secret and nary a Bigfoot or Raptor or Sentient Manifestation of My Sense of Existential Dread to be found. Up until now I’ve enjoyed Chuck Tingle as a kind of trickster spirit of the literary world, and it feels great to thoroughly enjoy this side of him as well. Loved it.

Such a poignant story of queer liberation and religious trauma, wrapped in the allegory of a horror story. Loved every second of it!
