About this audiobook
“If you love the novels of Shirley Jackson, Patricia Highsmith, and Tana French, here’s your next obsession.” —Kelly Link, author of White Cat, Black Dog
From Catriona Ward, author of The Last House on Needless Street, comes a masterful story about friendship and betrayal, dark obsessions, and the impossibility of escaping your own story.
In a cottage overlooking the windswept Maine coast, Wilder Harlow has begun the last book he will ever write.
It is the story about the sun-drenched summer days of his youth in Whistler Bay, and the blood-stained path of the killer that stalked his small vacation town. About the terrible secret he and his companions, Nat and Harper, discovered entombed in the coves off the bay. And how the pact they swore that day echoed down the decades, forever shaping their lives.
But the more Wilder writes, the less he trusts himself and his memory. He starts to see things that can’t be real – notes hidden in the cabin, from an old friend now dead; a woman with dark hair drowning in the icy waters below, calling for help; entire chapters he doesn’t recall typing, appearing overnight. Who, or what, is haunting Wilder?
No longer able to trust his own eyes, Wilder begins to fear that this will not only be his last book, but the last thing he ever does.
“An origami puzzle of a book, the mystery so beautifully crafted you don’t see the folds, with edges sharp as a paper cut.” —Lauren Beukes, author of The Shining Girls

I enjoyed this book up to a certain point. I enjoyed some of the twists but then it went left. I feel like the author just kept throwing in twists without thinking of flow. Some twists were just too ridiculous for my liking. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

This is one of those books that require you to trust the process even though you just want to keep thinking about it. It's going to require lots of patience, but once you get there, it's worth it. A spectacular mind bending novel that blurs the lines of fiction and what it means to grieve. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

This book represents 12 hours of my life that I will never get back. It ran in circles until it just spiraled completely out of sense. I kept listening thinking that it would get better, that it would make sense, become more clear, provide an explanation…..nope. Just 12 hours of a crappy book read in the style of a soap opera. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5

I enjoyed this twisted convoluted story, even with its multiple POV and confusing timeline. Maybe I’ve just always wanted friendships like the characters have in here or maybe it’s the setting since I am a life long Mainer. Whatever the reason, the story just felt comfortable - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

Some reviews are hard to write - and some of the hardest are the ones for books that are twisty, convoluted, and mind-bending fun reads. You don't want to give away much in the way of plot because therein lies half the fun of the reading. That's what Catriona Ward excels at writing, and this was no exception. Every time I thought I had a clue as to what was happening, she'd throw in another twist. It starts as a coming of age story but takes multiple turns throughout and at the end I was left wondering WTH did I just read? But in the best way. It's dark and wry and atmospheric and creepy and fascinating. It won't be everyone's cup of tea, but if that describes the type of book you enjoy, dive on in to Looking Glass Sound. And if you enjoy audiobooks, this was well-done. Both narrators did an excellent job.1 person found this helpful

This was the most BORING, SLOW and 200 pages WAYYYYYYYY too long. Then when you get to where it is going, which is NO where.....you don't even care about anyone. This book tried to be book about betrayal, ghosts, abuse, witchcraft, and vampirism, gay romance and then it just goes on and on and on! If you loved her Needless Street as I did.....do NOT waste the time on this snoozefest! NOT GOOD AT ALL.
